Shooting on a canon 350d with 18-55mm lens and Sigma ef-500 DG ST flashgun. So, if possible, when advising on changing settings, bear this in mind (very new to this and all the terminology gets a bit much).

1st one would be far better without the flower to the left (looking at pic) and possibly the other one as well.

2nd one.. I don't do baby pics but probably better if you hadn't chopped the top of their head off.

3rd one is spoilt mostly by the hand.

All IMO of course.

As for the technical expertise, I'll leave that to others.

:agree:

#1 could have been a corker if it was a tad off-centre. Good exposure and very nice colours, slight imperfections in flower could have been cloned out.

#2 and #3 don't do anything for me:shrug:

If you copy the stuff in the IMG code box on photobucket (and the picture is less than 800 pixels wide/high) you can show them in the thread.

Which I've just done.......

As said #1 isn't bad.

#2 is a family snapshot not a portrait. it is not sharp, the top of the head is missing and the background is distracting.

#3 you either have a hand holding a cut flower or a flower on a plant... not the two together. nicely exposed and sharp though :)

Thanks, I'm sticking with it, taking loads and loads more pics. I guess the ones I really like won't appeal to everyone, which is why I get several similar but not identical shots... I just didn't know how to post them on here, but I do now!

If we all liked the same how boring Photography would be! i like #4 gives a little imagination to it, and i can understand the saying "baby eyes" now, a nice capture.
