I'd have thought the water would've stayed in the grooves if they were horizontal. but what the heck do I know about building wooden cabins!! :D

Well you figured that one out. Clever girl that Janice.:D
Not true if you are using shiplap (and put it the right way up :) )
Is that shiplap style tongue and groove that you are using vertically?
I'd have covered the roof with plywood. Are you using planks because you can produce them yourself or a better reason?
Big project and progressing a lot faster than if I was trying do it :)
The boards I am using are 5x1inch straight off the saw. The cladding is spaced out with a 2 inch gap then covered with another board. This lets a flow of air up the back as well.
The roof is being clad with 1inch thick boards. The idea of the project was that I would use trees from the hill. Many of the trees had blown down & would just have been left to rot. I have bought in a load of European Larch logs which I will mill for floorboards. These came from my home Glen & I have known these trees all my life.Should get some lovely grain in the boards.
Looking good Sawman.....:)
