View Full Version : Does this work
Not sure if this works? If you follow the waterfall does it lead you out of the picture? I think I have the shutter speed correct to make the water flow.
I'm just waiting to collect my filters from the post office (been sat there since Tuesday, damn work) to help stop the over expusure.

I must admit it is nice to see the water coming from such a distance above.
Most of the waterfall shots we see are of very short waterfalls.
Just a tiny bit in the centre blown out, but you know that! ;)
Thanks Janice.
Managed to get the filters from the post office this morning. Will be going out later today to play with them.
Its a bit too centred for me. Also i think a slightly lower angle might work better. Tis very nice ***, well done.
yep looks great to me, really nice and different from the normal waterfall type shot

To answer your question (a bit tricky as the photo didn't all fit on my monitor until I played), I actually found my eye was lead most of the way up but then came back to the main bit of waterfall again.
The paler green above the top of the waterfall trail almost continues the path out of the frame. If you want to kill that, you might wish to tinker with the tones in that area to darken them a bit. Or, if you want to lead the eye out, lighten them and taper them off as a continuation of the line established by the white water.

Tank, I'll try that the next time I go up to these falls. Although I have tried taking the photos from a lower position on a number of other waterfalls and this seems to give good results. Thanks for the advise.

Cheers for these comments ppp, see the photo below and it does seem to work a little better.

Try increasing colour saturation a wee bit, I forests look better with brighter livelier greens.

Very nice shot, agree with steep about the colour - you have the water movement just right form my tastes as well! Good one!
Thanks for the comments Steep and Dark Star, I've increased the saturation a little. Does this look better or a little over saturated?

Hi Taxi, love the shot. Seeing up the hill a way definately helps and the water movement is great.
Only thing that throws it for me is that in the main cascade near the bottom, the water coming down the left hand waterfall is so different to the right hand one, i guess leading to the overexposure of that left hand side. Only thing i can think of to correct this would be to go back when the water level is higher. Otherwise, it's very nice.
Oh, and i think it's oversaturated now!
That's a fantastic waterfall Taxi although as mentioned, the last version looks a little over saturated now.. As a picture, personally, it also works better for me if was cropped just a 'smidgen' above where the falls begin at the top ...........

But doesn't everything ... :suspect: ... :D
That is a really lovely image Taxi ... ... liking it a lot as it has just about the right amount of white not to overpower the lovely lively Greens ... :D:D:D
Joking aside I think you may have overdone it just a tad in the last re-working though ...
:p

And it needs to be a little sharper for me too (the trees etc, wind dependent of course).
Thanks again for all your comments.
Next time the stream is in flood I'll try and take some photos, taking into account your comments.
I went past yesterday, but the water level was to low to see the higher part of the falls correctly.
Cheers

Wow, great shot(s) love it :)
I've reduced the saturation little in this one.

subtle but corrected white balance, bit of contrast enhancement and some dodge following the stream to highlight it better - otherwise it's a bit lost
I had a play with the original in PS but I want to rotate slightly and crop and the resulting image is way too small and already processed (thus over processed). No idea why I'm posting that lol, but I spent 15 mins trying, so thought I should :P.
looks good.i love it.
It may just be the angle of the shooting point but I find myself leaning left when looking at it. After a while it made me feel uncomfortable (that may just be my hangover though!). The trees look vertical though

I think its a really nice photo and i love the way the water looks, im guessing its a long shutter time that does that?
(sorry im abit of a noob!)

Hi,
Really nice waterfall, I like the way the falls come all the way down the image, this leads your eyes up and down nicely.
If I had to make one critique it would be that, due to the angle you are stood to the falls, the first shelf does have a 'leaning off to the left' feel about it.
All the best,
WW.

Doyou have a polarizer?
You can reduce the reflections off the rocks and gain a stop or two at the same time for movement in the water!
Cheers!
No I do not have a polarizer. I have been thinking of getting one as I believe they would be of benefit. Thanks for asking and the advise Anton
