The weather was awful with no breaks in the cloud whatsoever so i tried to make the best of a bad day, a couple more are there under my flickr account.
I havent got any post-processing editors so what you see is what i took with the conversions being done by the camera itself.
Also need advice on how to keep the bright colours of the grass and trees without the snow blowing out my highlights??

These are some of the best conditions for photography.... there's no sun so your contrast is even and your white balance is spot on. I love going out when it's stormy or overcast for photography.
To keep the camera from blowing out the whites, you could probably set your exposure bias to -1 or shoot HDR. From the looks of it, your photos are slightly overexposed anyways so the exposure bias may do the trick alone. Also, shoot RAW if you're not doing so already. The conversion to JPEG throws away information, especially on on blacks and whites which cause things to be blown out or blacked out.
I think your images here have some potential too. If you clip the blacks and up the saturation on #1, I think it would be quite lovely, even with the blown out snow. (Snow's suppose to white, right? ;) ) Same with #5. I might warm it up just a tad too.
BTW -- Photoscape (http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php) is a nice free post processor which gives you some basic filters and correction tools. It can also read RAW files too.
i dont know much about exposure bias, is there any site or direction you or anyone could give me to learn or read up about it? I'm just gutted i spent 4hrs in such a lovely area and the snow, and my silly settings have made me miss out on really good photos arghhhhhh.
i'm taking my photos in raw but converting to upload to flickr in jpeg (does flickr accept raw?!).
Gutted!!! :(
If you shot in RAW its easy to correct slight errors in exposure without losing any image quality so don't worry. What software are you using?

Ah local on the forum! Welcome :)
I love Kielder - excellent place for photography.
Lovely snaps :)
Nice enough shots and quite good compositions but the whites are a bit blown out.
Shots are nice and sharp though...
On the last shot, I think the horizon is a wee bit off.
Here`s (http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial-exposure-compensation.html) a link to explaining exposure bias but there are loads of other ones if you google for it.
Good efforts though.

I use viewnx which came with the camera for transferring the files across :)
By software I meant Photoshop/lightroom etc :)

Download the nikon Capture NX2 for a free trial. It's on the Nikon website:thumbs:
Number 5 is very good. Shame about the over exposure on the snow but maybe you can recover some using the trial version of Capture nx
I love Kielder, although haven't been up since I got my decent camera.
Nice shots, number 5 being the best of the bunch for me.
assuming capture nx is only a month free trial? will check it out at the weekend when i'm not busy.
I'm seeing no.5 in a different light now, i thought it was ok but the lighting let it down? but as someone said above, the contrast is more even etc. Still learning though!
Great area with its own microclimate Chris, worth repeated visits across the year.
definitely going back with my lass next time, i fancy a walk around from the ferry point to the other ferry point, i assume that will take a good while to do!

When you say ViewNX, is it ViewNX2?
If not, then you should download this version from the Nikon website, it's free and a big improvement on the first version. Also, if you look around you can often get some good deals on photoshop elements.

It's just NX.I'm keeping an eye out for elements and using sites like hotukdeals for a bargain :)

Hire a bike from across the dam, its 26 miles around but not too strenuous on decent tracks and paths.
