is there a reasonably priced replacement for the 18-55mm Canon kit lense that will have a better appature?
i really like how versatile the lense is and use it a lot but often need to shoot in low light and find it just doesn't let enough light in at anything other than 18mm...

On a side note is it worth getting a better lens for an old camera like the 300d or worth looking into upgrading the cameera body?

Take a look at this thread:
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=29830

I ordered this today after spending a long time looking into a replacement for the 18-55mm

I have a 70-300 for zoom stuff and a 10-22mm for wide angle and a 100mm macro for..um.. macro;)

So I was looking for something to fill the 18-55mm niche but was better quality without costing a fortune.

Just ordered the same 17-70 for my new Samsung GX-10, the Sigma gets very good reviews from both "official" tests & existing users
