I have a Nikon D40 and I love to take longer then average exposures. Only problem I've come across is that on manual mode the longest exposure you can set is 30 seconds. I know there are ways to get longer then that. much longer. Im just not sure how. I believe there is some sort of remote you can use to control the shutter and hold it as long as you want. Is this true? and if so where would I go alone to get one that works with my camera. Thanks for any help. :D

If you use the 'B' setting and a remote release you can have as long an exposure as you want.

:suspect: ... Only if you hold the trigger down or press it and then set Lock on it ... ;)

On manual turn the thumb wheel to the left so it goes past 30 secs and says Bulb. If you have the infra red remote (ML-L3), which us very cheap to buy on ebay, you just press once to start the exposure and press again to stop. You will have to use the second hand on your watch or buy a stop watch because there is no timer remote that will work with the D40 AFAIK. Hope this helps, ben:)

are you sure the ML-L3 will work? because online is doesn't say its supports the D40.

The ML-L3 is listed on the Nikon website as an accessory for the D40 and D40X. I was looking at getting one for my D40X.

I use a £0.99 one that I got off ebay from HK for my D40X. Does the job perfectly fine, and also has a built in LED torch. :)
