Welcome to the 2011 Talk|Photography Photographer Of The Year Competition.

Sponsored By: Vision Graphix
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/../images/externallogos/banners/vision_graphix_460x68.gif (http://www.visiongraphix.co.uk/)

Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month

This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.

The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.

So on with the competition;

The theme for April is:
'SPRING FORTH!'

The colour is beginning to return, dazzle with springtime symphonies of light!

That's exactly where I am as well Jerry. I've pretty much dismissed a few options, as I'm just not able to get out into the countryside and get the shots I want. However, I spent maybe 6 weeks working up ideas and set building etc. for round 3, and I sort of promised myself that I should do something without elaborate builds or 3 weeks hunting down props this month - for the sake of my sanity, not to mention the fact that MrsYin threatened to leave 3 times last month

It's funny. At first glance, it looks as though it's a really simple title to work with - But then when you actually stop and think about the words, it's much harder to interpret without resorting to the obvious - and even then, does it really fit the bill?

I reckon if I could get hold of a second hand Tardis, there'd be a great trade in selling "4 extra weeks in July" as a holiday.

Just think of the benefits...

you could sell an extra months revision time to worried students...

you could sell an extra couple of days to prepare that critical report to harrased managers...

you could sell all the people who wanted to take a snow shot for februarys competition a week in the previous December...

Not feeling this one (or next month's for that matter) - don't know whether it's just me not wanting to ramp up the cheese-factor with a shot of a daffodil or a lamb, but I always did struggle with translating literal concepts into a final image; tell me to take a kick-ass picture of a fish and I'm there but this is one that I don't want to enter any old **** for.... need to think hard(er).....

Feeling exactly the same here - everything I come up with for this one is cornier than the green giants store-cupboard! I suppose when you're shooting the fishing pictures, you're a bit too far downstream to get a shot of the source of the river???

Unfortunately, in coarse fishing the rivers are closed until June 16th so no river shoots, and I have no mountain/moorland trout features where I'd have a chance to shoot a spring.

Just finding the themes are a bit too much about fitting an image to what is essentially a sentence or phrase, instead of a specific subject matter or technique, that latter two being much more accessible as photographic subjects.....

Ahh, fair enough - just thought I'd throw the idea out there - it was one of my first thoughts, but this months just not going to be one where I can get out into the hills to shoot it, so I thought someone else might as well have a chance.

I'm certainly having to work/think a lot more about this years topics, as opposed to last year's technique led themes - well - with the exception of last years cross-processing round (March 2010). That ended up with me buying the full kit of chemicals to process E6 slides and C41 Negative film, a mahoosive box of expired film from fleabay, and learning not only how to process the film normally (to get some idea that I was doing things right and consistently) but also to do cross processed film. I think that the experimentation for that round is still going on  And to think, some people just cheated it all in photoshop :naughty:

Photoshop I never got as far as photoshop I spotted an action in lightroom and hit the button it really was that simple. Not been back to that button since I have to add cross processing just isn’t for me.

I'm planning a little walk up The Cheviot on Sunday and so far your idea is the only none cheesy idea I've seen so far for this month unless I find an outstanding field of lambs surrounded by daffodils, or mother nature provides me with a superb light display then your idea may yet see the light of day.

i did get a few shots at the weekend of something that will fit the theme nicely, but i've not even had chance to go through them yet to see if they're any good. Mind you, the quality of my shots has never determined whether they get entered before... why change now

You're not kidding. I "went cheesey early" for April, to give myself time to concentrate on coming up with somehthing for May, and still haven't got a Scooby

I think my problem is that Pretty much everything I've shot for the last 8 months has been withing walking distance of my front door. With the twin results of 1) I'm bored out of my mind with anything reasonably local and photogenic and 2) The brief is just too broad for me to get a handle on - as EVERYTHING i've shot recently is fair game.

Plus, with all the Bank Holidays, I've been unable to do much scouting around for locations I may have missed - I can't get carer cover for bank-holidays to look after my Dad while I get out. Strange that a surfeit of holidays would mean that I'm even more tied to the house than normal, isn't it

It's not just Noob's.... out of the top 20 scoring (well 21, as there's a tie for 20th place) people who have entered this year, there's only 8 who have a shot in already... it's becoming quite the fashionable thing to enter in the last few hours apparently ;)

It's not just Noob's.... out of the top 20 scoring (well 21, as there's a tie for 20th place)

where is this leader board of which you speak wise one

I know i'm at something of a disadvantage having missed rounds 1-3 but it would be good to see how big a lead i'd have to make up :bonk:

 a temporary triumph of consistency over talent, which I'm sure will be redressed after april's voting.

Lol - yeah may be i'll get 72 votes for my Fuji F10 goes roaming in a sheep feild in search of a cheap sheep cliche

but I somehow doubt it

(My DSLRs will be back in action for the may contest - then we'll see Mr Bond *laughs maniacally while stroking large white cat * )

It's not just Noob's.... it's becoming quite the fashionable thing to enter in the last few hours apparently ;)

I'm hoping to get in early for the next one.

Good to see i'm not the only noob thinking of sliding in to home base in a cloud of dust at 1 minuite to midnight on saturday :D

SATURDAY? Who, what, how... has someone removed a week from April's calendar? How did the end of the month come round so quick? :bang:

Pressure's on now... i've looked at what i thought i could have put in as my entry and the shot(s) are just pants. :bonk:

Reminds me of a friend of mine... he says that he's determined that his last words are going to be "FFS, is that the time already???"

photographing your underwear drawer is an interesting take on the concept, but may a bit off target - maybe if you added a bottle of bounce fabric conditioner ;)

I think it's more to do with fear than fashion we are all taught from a young age that as soon as you hit that submit button and enter your shot that a better idea/opportunity will suddenly appear out of the blue.

Reminds me of the line that Spike Milligan has on his grave stone "I told you I was ill."

Arrghh!! I am having brain freeze. Can't think of a single original thing that I can put into practise! Or even an unoriginal one for that matter.

Too true!

My eureka "Be Still" moment came after it was too late to enter it :bang:

After a couple of months where time has passed without allowing me to do much except work, drive and sleep, I have at last managed to get an entry in again!

Here's hoping to double my YTD score!

So's mine - and likewise I'm not entirely happy with it - but both my DSLRs are out off action so I had lots of ideas that i couldnt turn into reality.

They'll be back in action for "round my way" - if not i'll be buying another body.

last chance saloon for me! off into manchester now with some friends - supposed to be going with wives and kids for a 'family day out' and a chinese later.... something tells me i'll be breaking away from the party at every opportunity in search of the elusive 'moment' :naughty:

And so despite having got myself organised, shot plenty of stuff early on, I still find myself posting on the last day of the month because I have spent the last 10 days deliberating about which shot to enter (I had 34 too many choose from!)

In the end I have gone for colourful; the shots of the lamb being born were perhaps a little too graphic! (for anyone who is interested, they are posted on my Flickr)

Some great shots again this month - good work to all who have posted.

Now, am off to the village May festival to shoot something for the next round.

hurrah I can stop thinking about flaming spring forth! Got mine in this morning after much churning of ideas. Had this quote since last week but this was the first uncloudy day to date on the coast. I'm sick of getting up at 5am looking out of the window and going back to bed because of fog, or fret or plain old cloud. I was starting to panic for an alternative.

Was happily snapping away and another tog appeared too. I was paranoid that the same (only better) image was going to end up before mine.

Well done for sticking out for your shot

Oh - and welcome to the hell of thinking about "Round My Way" - I've been there for 3 weeks now, and getting to feel quite at home there :bang::bang::bang:

I don't have problems with taking a shot from my local area. I've done little or nothing else photographically for the last 3 years. What I'm struggling with is actually finding something to shoot that actually says "Round my Way" to me. There are a couple of things happening in the next month, which I'm hoping to get out and shoot, but other than those, I'm drawing a complete blank :(

Deliberately put May's theme out of mind so i wouldn't go twice as bonkers. Had a bit of a light bulb moment this morning (sea air good for something) for the round my way photo. Just need to take it and hope no-one else has that same thought.

Sheesh, I'm even more paranoid than i thought!

yeah me too - I thought i'd cracked it with a reflection shot through a half round bridge of my local area , but not only is the picture crap but i got told off by mr neighbourhood watch for 'trespassing' while paddling in the river :shake:

still plenty of time for a eureka moment

Simon, thank you. You helped me make up my mind. I have procrastinated for several days over which shot to submit. One was a bluebell shot which is almost a carbon copy of yours, so I decided to submit the other one!

Glad to be of some service... Was not too sure about posting another bluebell shot but in the end the vibrant collies swayed me. I just wish I had have posted it on the day I took it as opposed to spending the last week and a bit debating whether it should go in or not whilst watching other bluebell shots get posted!
