One of my parent's cat, keeping guard

I'm not sure why i like this photo so much (not personal affection, me and the cat are not close).

I wish i'd got the edge of the patio square to the border, but i suppose i can crop this in PhotoShop to correct it.

The second picture is of a butterfly i saw in a Tropical House on a family day out.

Any thought or suggestions on how these shots could be improved gratefully received.:)

That cat does not look a happy bunny

Tbh, I wouldnt be happy either with a parasol growing out of my head! ;)

Seriously though, beautiful cat, but you need to think about your composition & background a little more when composing your shot.
Try to eliminate as much excess clutter as possible in the background and as a general rule, try to get away from composing the subject too centrally too.

The butterfly is lovely, could do with a crop off the right side, you dont need all that deadspace behind it.
Perhaps a little sharpen for web if you havent already done so.

Btw, the butterfly shot is actually over the forum size limit, could you please resize to 800px on the longest side, or we can remove the image tags and leave the links for you.
Thanks ... oh and welcome to the forum

I agree with InaGlo about the composition of the first one, not easy I know when you've got a great 'model' in front of you - all you're worried about is getting that picture - I know I'm still like that at times. All thoughts of composition and such like go out of my head. :D

Butterfly shot is good, just needs a bit of sharpening :D

Composition never entered my head! As Lady Pitstop said, i was concentrating on getting pictures of the 'model' (his name is Bob) without thinking about anything else (I'm as beginner as you can get when it comes to photography). I would've looked at that picture forever without noticing the unfortunate cat's head growth. :embarrassed:

Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated :)
