Looks like a great location Janice :) Really like the second shot, have you given it some kind of glow/soft focus effect as it doesn't look real somehow. I also like the first and last shots, though I would maybe be tempted to saturate the sky slightly more and it seems a bit pale, but thats just being picky. Great shots!

I pretty much think it's another variety of Phacelia. :D
See Sawmans thread http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=30346

Some variety's look like campanula flower heads.

Well they certainly do look like campanula flower heads. so thats true. so the reason to grow a whole field would be the same as sawman's farmer said then?

It seems the variety which looks like campanula is only about 2 feet tall and doesnt grow up a stem like this.

Phacelia campanularia (http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.fireflyforest.com/flowers/images/violet/violet_25/Phacelia_cam_400.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fireflyforest.com/flowers/violets/violet25.html&h=400&w=400&sz=36&hl=en&start=8&sig2=SZMT2gwlMFEQ6U6YStcjjA&um=1&tbnid=EflxFmgNLpIlcM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=124&ei=FIG_RtO2A4SMxAGg6o2SCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3DPhacelia%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3 Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DN)

Damn... thought we had it there!! :D

Ok, after hitting the books and the Net I think it maybe Echium plantagineum, a species of annual borage that has more colour variety. It produces an oil suitable for use in food, it was being trialled by the FSA in 2006 and maybe it's been passed for mass production, I don't know for sure cos I haven't got that far. I need to go to bed soon , my man is home in the morning. :D

Ooooo and a thread with my name in the title! never had one before, ever! http://www.forumup.com/images/smiles/slider_thankyou.gif

You deserve it for all that research - and Janice for finding such a wonderful location - Essex girls have their uses!

Essex girls forage in Borrage?

I think you have hit the nail on the head Susane, although it says it is toxic. Hope they dont use that for ploughing back in or feeding to the cows!!:nono:

Some info here (http://www.secretseeds.com/acatalog/Echium.html)

It has alkaliods in it which could make you sick in it's natural state.
Looks like they are possibly going to use it in foodstuffs, not sure what else it is used for.
