  You lucky so and so Ven.... we have a robin that always sits and watches us gardening from a few feet away, but I think 2 Russells and a cat have stopped him/her getting quite that friendly, although when they appear, he sits in a shrub just out of reach 'shouting' at them! :D

How wonderful is it to touch nature like that! I wish I could try that here but the only things that come close enough are tortoises, boar and scorpions.

As I said earlier I am seriously privileged in this way ...

Here is our very first 'pet' Robin ... Boysie ... he is in at least his fifth season as he started coming to us, as an adult, almost as soon as we moved in in 2003 ...

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/628/RLG8878.jpg

We are a little concerned as he now has what appears to be quite a large cyst above his left eye and, of course we are absolutely helpless ... ...

... we will be devastated if he doesn't come back next year as he has been a regular favourite for us each year and has quite a character developed over the last four years with us ... ...

... he also captivates everyone who visits and gets to feed him on their own hands ... :D

Thanks for looking and all your kind comments ...

Ven you could speak to a vet and see if they will let you have some antibiotics in liquid form.. you could inject a tiny bit into one of those grubs daily for him

I have no idea if that would actually work, but I would be one of the saps trying something like that

Do you know I never even thought about that Jo ... ... nothing to lose I suppose except Boysie of course ... :'(

And I too would be another sap ... ;)

Thanx Jo I might just give them a ring ...

:) Let us know if you can do that, and of course if it works. I would love to hear that old Boysie is getting better.

I doubt that LL ... all it takes is some tubs of fat worms (wax worms) and oodles of patience ... anyone can do it with almost any Robin in the land ...

Give it a whirl ... you'll be pleasantly surprised and gain a friend for its very short life ... then you gotta start over with another one and so it goes ... ;)

Ven, I've seen quite a few people feeding robins out of their hand, but a couple of years ago I watched a fellow on the sea front at Weymouth feeding a couple of starlings just like you feed the robins. Obviously he is a local down there and must have been doing it for some time.

Hi Lammie ... Now that is patience rewarded ...

As well as our few Robins we have fed Blue Tits and Great Tits this year ... ... and almost a pair of Blackbirds ... but not quite ...

The Starlings want to but don't come anywhere near trying yet but who knows ... ;) ... we'll keep trying anything that will venture close enough ... :D
