View Full Version : Bit of a price dilema

So, I took a photo of the plane at work. See below...

I sent the image to show the office and the owner wants to use it for the new website they are getting made. I saw the design, it will be the banner of the website, taking up the majority of the page almost. Obviously also being on every page too.

They also want to print it at poster size and get it framed for the Glasgow Science Centre, where the company will be shortly based.

Now obviously this is all great and I'm really proud of all this but I have no idea of what I should do with pricing seeing as I work for this company as a Pilots Assistant, not as a photographer and took this image while "on duty".

Do I be very kind and not charge at all? Do I be kind and charge just a little? (£ ?) Or do I be cheeky and charge a normal rate? (£££'s ?)

Opinions please.

You could just ask for a decent raise, better company car, 50% pension, a couple of hundred (thousand) shares, 3 day working week, etc., ad inifnitum ... :naughty: ... you get the gist ... :D

I think it might be more beneficial in the long term if you were credited for the shot both on the web site and at the museum, rather than ask a fortune for the pic?

Lovely shot btw - I can see why they want to use it.:)

Great shot and IMO CT's right, especially since the company is your employer.

Where is it? I'm in love with the West Coast. :)

Agree with CT on this, asking for money could cause friction which you don't want, a credit would do nicely I think.

Credit for the pic and maybe a holiday day in lieu, then take that holiday day off and go out all day with your camera!

I am in agreement with most in this thread - I think it would be more beneficial for you if you were to allow them use of the image for what they have requested, and just ask for credit if any clients or visitors ask about it.

One thing you could do though, and I don't think this is cheeky - is to ask for a large print of the image for yourself. If your company are getting this printed up poster size - you might like to suggest that you'd also love a copy...?

Just a thought...
