Just wondering what sync speed of this combo

1D3 + YN506 flash triggered by RF-602

is High speed sync possible or would I need a 580EX?

Phil, you'll need an ST-E2 and Canon flash to get HHS off camera. The Yongnou's will give you 1/250th only.

Although there is a Yongnuo version of it too.

Cheers Dean

By the way i'm all set to try my hand at OCF work. I've got a Westcott Apollo 28 and stand along with the triggers and flash which all arrived yesterday.

Awesome. Do you work in the week? Free weekends?

I wouldn't bother with the ST-E2, it's nearly the cost of a flash so you may as well get a 580EX2 for just a bit more and get more functionality, plus it's not as reliable as using the 580 as a master.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with either, but would get a Nikon D70s which will sync to insane speeds. ;)

We'll make it a Sunday then, mate. I'm still feeling a bit rough, but I can make some time and there's a venue just down the road from me.

There's a church down the road with lots of cool little places. Well worth a bash to try stuff out.

Agreed, I'm a nikon shooter and I wouldn't bother with their commander. Flash for nearly the same money and you can use it for a bit off fill if needed, plus you have an extra backup flash.

If you want High Speed Sync off-camera, it is only available via E-TTL control (manual and auto).

Cheapest way, and 100% reliable, is to use an extension cord but it's not exactly wireless. Yongnuo's ST-E2 clone has a much higher spec than the Canon version and sells for only £80 on ebay. Gets good reviews too. (Canon ST-E2 is half the price of a 580EXII, and around £170.)

I've decided to buy one of those quantum rigs Ed Bray reviewed. Look cracking value.

What quantum is that? I have the T5D-R with turbo 3 battery pack for OCF. Wonderful set up and very portable. You can buy a TTL wireless reciever for it but I always work in manual for OCF.

Not one of those - way overpriced for me. Have a look in the review forum for edbray's review.

I always work in manual too, but CLS may change that on occasions since I switched.
