Bought a Nokia N70 off PhilT and it arrived today.
Problem is it keeps saying "SIM card registration failed"
As far as I know, there are 2 reasons that would happen:
1) SIM card has expired
2) Phone is barred/blocked
There's nothing up with the SIM card. Anyone got any ideas how to fix it, or should I give up?

It's a 3 phone and I'm using a 3 SIM card.

3's diagnosis is this... the IMEI number on the phone is showing as being registered under someone else's name.
And until that person rings 3 and says they no longer have/use the phone I can't use the phone at all. GRRR. Ah well, Phil will refund me so I can buy another phone.

thats a bummer, can phil not ring up and sort it out or was it not his phone?

He said he got it off a family member.. I'm sending it back anyways and getting a refund, maybe Phil can sort it out with whoever he got the phone off.

This is a result of UMTS standards.... more secure than a secure thing!
The police and other authorities wanted a way to crack down on black market phone sales.... quite a result I think! Yay....

This is hardly a blackmarket phone, hasn't been stolen.

Didn't say it was! I'm just quoting the reason as to why these things are not easy to overcome these days. Blame 3GPPP... they're the ones that came up with the ideas....
Sorry if my statement gave offence.... not my intention :(
