First i need to apologise for not being able (time wise) to spend more time and comment on pictures (some of them superb) of other members , some times i wish there were more than 24 hours in a day.

About the picture now.
My eye caught this tree while i was driving around the isle of Bute and i just loved its isolation , just standing there on its own in an empty field waiting for someone to take its picture.
Well,i couldn`t resist.

12mm on a full frame camera

OOh I really like this.
I love the vast open space all around & the detail in the clouds is really unusual.
Also, I like the way the cloud on the right of the tree appears to mirror the heavier branches on the left ... very clever! ;)

Im sure I read somewhere that youre never supposed to cut into the shadow of an isolated tree .... just goes to show that rules are there to be broken! :)

I know what you mean , in this case though and to get the present composition (at 12mm wide on a full frame camera) it was simply impossible not to cut off the shadow.
Well spotted though.;)

Wowza!

A simply great shot. I love the shot but just wanted to see it in B&W as the composition is so strong I thought that the colour was not really required.

What do you think?

Both images are great. The mono is far moodier though.

Cheers Brash!!!!

Totally loving this shot! It works in every way for me, and I like both versions.

The b&w could be a clear winner over an excellent colour image but I think it needs a play so the green of the tree and blue of the sky don't come out the same tone down the left edge.

Greatshot. I prefer the origional colour version. One slight criticism though is that I find the clouds a little bit grey. Personally I would dodge them a little to make them 'pop' a little more.

i love it :D and i too prefer the colour one. sometime simplest is bestest (i'm so eloquent!) i love the angles and shape of the tree, the land to sky ratio, the clouds...i'd hang it on my wall :D

Love it. The original colour for me. The black and white is dramatic but that, to me, distracts from the simplicity of the shot.

I agree. I knew that I had left that edge not so clearly defined but with time that could be done. I did the conversion simply because I believe Dimitri has created an image that is so simple in it's construction it will be powerful with or without colour information.

Yep,it needs a bit of work for the B&W to work well.

Thank you all for the nicest comments, highly appreciated.:)

Agreed - The mono version, albeit with a small tweak works more for me.
