Welcome to the 2011 Talk|Photography Photographer Of The Year Competition.

Sponsored By: Vision Graphix
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/../images/externallogos/banners/vision_graphix_460x68.gif (http://www.visiongraphix.co.uk/)

Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month
This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.

The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize, currently a free print from Vision Graphix. The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.

So on with the competition;

The theme for April is:
'SPRING FORTH!'

The colour is beginning to return, dazzle with springtime symphonies of light!

Please go to the following tutorial if you are having difficulty in posting an entry:

My entry for this month - a little unorthodox to the rest of the entries but this, for me, is part of spring that I know and love as an angler...

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5263/5638135107_f09990becf_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/patmacinnes/5638135107/)
The Hungry Trout (http://www.flickr.com/photos/patmacinnes/5638135107/) by Pat MacInnes (http://www.flickr.com/people/patmacinnes/), on Flickr

Shot during a feature shoot at Foremark Fishery to illustrate how late spring and early summer can bring improved sport for fly anglers, as the fish feed heartier, the insects hatch more freely and the water warms to create a more beneficial environment for both fish and angler.

This was one of those 'more luck then judgement' shots; I'd moved into a shallow bay that was alive with insect life and noticed loads of feeding trout, making quick, single rises for food. The angler accompanying me, Scierra's Scott Graham, made a cast to a moving fish in the vain hope it would re-surface and to our surprise (and against the trend), within seconds the fish attacked the two Cul de Canards, launching itself clean out of the water, as seen in the background of the third shot.

Contrary to the slow, hard-to-spot sips that trout make during the height of summer when taking upwinged flies that have fallen on the water, fishing these oily flies made from the back feathers of ducks (they imitate an emerging fly trapped in the surface film) makes the fish lurch out of the water to engulf the fly, meaning takes are violent and all the more exciting. Spring really has sprung when you get action from hungry trout like this...

My original model was a Springer Spaniel, but I was unable to get a date set with his owner for the shot. My Labrador, Mr Bojangles, stepped up to the plate and, although he loves water and chasing balls, doesn't like jumping into water. This was about the 20th time I threw the ball into the river and he finally jumped in instead of sliding in! Big thanks to my beautiful boy for being a great sport!

Not going to have the kittens in time, so an emergency last-minuter...

The Rhododendrons don't last long unfortunately, and already they are on the way out. Spring has sprung for them...

After a couple of weeks shooting Spring insects, I'm out of time and will have to settle on this one.

I might be stretching this a little but, I have thought of spring as in a geyser, maybe. The children are running forth, outwards.

Thats my take on it anyway :)

Good luck everyone
