environment sealing down to the 40D level!!!!!

Its about time really, considering the D200 has offered this for, what? 2 / 3 years now? If they hadnt included this it would of been a big mistake.

It is indeed an interesting camera.

Where can i order one though?! I don't want to import as the warranties on bodies aren't international and that could be a pain!

Wait a while in case of bugs, but also check out RGB (http://www.rgb-tech.co.uk/product/574).

£669.99

I bought my 30D from them and they were good to deal with.

But still wait a while. ;)

Hi Organic, Would you really upgrade from a 30D to a 40D?

I mean, the 40D has some nice features, that 3" screen will be great to look at, and okay it has some better weather seals and dust cleaning etc.

But, how much better will the image quality be over the 30D, I mean, will it be £900 better?

I upgraged a year ago from a 300D, and while the new features on the 30D are great (especially the write speed) the image quality (unless you are using High ISO) from the 300D still stands up fairly well.

I personally will wait for the 5D replacement, as I really want a FF sensor so my wider lenses will work as wide as they can.

Not really the way you should look at it. Will the 5D MkII's images quality be £1600 better? In short, no. In Amateaur Photographs mag this week they cover sensor size and if it really does matter. They compare the 30D, D80 and E-510 head to head and then against the 5D and 1Ds. The difference isnt really that inspiring.

Like you said, your wider full 35mm coverage lenses lose their wideness on a crop body but there are EF-S lenses available for crop bodies that will provide the same FOV as your 35mm FF lenses.

Hi WildWalker and King Boru,

I cannot see myself upgrading in the short term (I've spent way too much this year as it is) but it would be nice to have a second body as I appear to be swapping lens way too much. This 'second body' approach my swing it with the wife too.

The 30D's functionality and resolution are fine for me at the moment. It appears that the 40D battery door has been weatherproofed but not the switches are dials. What good is that?

Might be a good plan Scoff :) I think I'll wait until i've read the 40D reviews at it does appear to have a lot going for it.

Lol not, but my reason for upgrading is mainly to get the FF sensor. I have avoided EF-S lenses and only bought L Series EF lenses, as I didn't want to upgrade lenses and bodies as I went. (I did admitibly buy cheapy cheap lenses when I started, but the cost of all of those lenses together comes to less than a few hundred quid)

I appreciate I won't get £1600 of extra quality, but I will at last get full width for landscapes (yippee)

I just didn't think anyone would consider upgrading from a 30D (or even a 10D or 20D) to a 40D, as it's basically the same model.

It will come down in price a lot if you wait though, my 30D was £850 12 months ago, look at the price now, it's just unfortunate that my 'upgrade' came at that time :)
