Slovenia is a truely beautiful country. It used to be part of Yugoslavia (sp?) and we were in the Triglav national park for most of our trip. Triglav is 2864 m high. The Soca valley has the most amazingly blue/green river. It REALLY is the colour you see here in the photos...honest!

I tried really hard to take photographs rather than holiday snaps....even lugged my tripod up mountains (and I don't do walking!!). It was tricky though, as most of the time there was a deep blue haze over everything.

Hope you like these........

Lovely shots, looks like you had a wonderful time.

Couldn't resist having a play with one of them, my trial of Elements runs out today :'( will have to look at the budget to see if I can afford to buy it, or I may have to go back to Gimp.
Is it a good play?

Yes! Thanks Susane.

I didn't do anything to them other than re-size for here, as my PP skills are still not up to much....what did you do?

I'll get back to you on what I did soon, watching England v Germany. ;)

Susane: GIMP 2.4 should be out in the wild pretty soon and it's MUCH better than the 2.2 series feature-wise. And the latest dev builds have been pretty stable (want a link?). Btw., the edit is a good one, they make the photo pop a bit more.

photostar_1: Nice photos :)

I'd say it was worth the effort!

Like that first one. Last one has mountains a similar colour to Yosemite.

I love the first shot ! Very well captured, the tripod has to be worth it for this shot alone. That is so much more than just a holiday snap !

Thanks, Chewyuk....I really tried hard for this one. There was a river gorge to walk up, on a very hot, humid day. When we got there, there was a raised wooden walkway around the edge of a huge rockface, to get into the waterfall cavern. It was dark, damp and so humid my glasses and the camera lens steamed up! I'd seen the similar shot on a postcard in a tourist shop and wanted to try and get something similar. I shot it at lots of different shutter speeds, to get the water to look milky. I think this one was 15 secs at f16.

Mine are not up to much either.
I used Elements. First I used levels then contrast then saturation all on Auto to see what it did with the pic.
Then manually tweaked the shadows/highlights, mainly adjusting the midtones.
Then dodged the darker areas of the shrubbery and the highlights.
It's maybe not how you're supposed to do it but it works for me.:D

Thanks...It looked good! I can do basic levels and saturation, but am only just getting to grips with dodging/burning and some of the more complicated things. I don't have much of an artistic eye!

I think they are just loverly! A bit of a play in PS with the levels and print 'em (especially the 1st one) BIG!

Thank. I tried printing it, but having problems getting printer to reproduce what I get on screen, I need to get a monitor calibrator....but then still not sure how to get printer to match. Might try one of the online printer folk once I'm happy that what I have on screen is reproduceable.

Why is everything so complicated?

Number one is an absolute peach of an image.
Not that there's anything wrong with the others it's just that #1 has grabbed my attention more.

I agree, the colours are as I remember.
We had two weeks by Lake Bohonj last summer and loved it.
Beautiful scenery and sooooo clean it puts the UK to shame.
Friendly people too.

Thanks everyone. Belive me, if you are into landscapes this is one country well worth visiting, especially the North west bit.

As the country is only the size of Wales, you can see a heck of a lot in a short time.
