Going through the catalogue and finding files to resurrect. This one never made the light of day last time but the strong building made we want to do something with it. Threw every Lightroom preset at it, every tweak and curve and eventually this was the result. Saved from the bin!

No response to this one?
Strange I was waiting for a love it / hate it reaction but none at all has me even more worried.
Was it something I said? :D

This one brought a lump to my throat <gulp> My gran was from Burghead, and when she died, my mum took her 'home' by scattering her ashes at the Harbour, so this is quite a special photo for me and conveys something entirely different from what others will see. It's a place I still have to visit.
When I first saw the shot, I wasn't too keen on it, but the more I keep coming back, the more I like it. The processing works for me, it has quite a sombre feel to it. Not too sure about the movement on the boats in the foreground.

well i love it. only thing is i would clone out the fuzzy top of the mast/aerial on the first boat.

Noooo, just managed to miss this the first time. I think the processing works well and I like the movement in the boats. for me though, the dark bits are just a smidge too dark!
I find the motion blur distracting but the shot has a nice age to it. Way back when long exposures were the norm I reckon the phot would have waited for the tide to go out enough to settle the boats.
Sound of the Sea - Welsh trawlers in Scotland. Whatever next....
Swn y Mor is the name of my folks house Pembrokeshire which you can just make out on the back of the boat. (Nice little detour there)
I do find the movement on the left a little distracting and would 100% crop out the antenna raising into the sky on both boats. Apart from that I quite like the moody feel.
I would love to see a B&W version of that shot!
The masts are a little distracting, and a slightly brighter exposure might work imo.. But that said, the composition works very well indeed! I like :)
I like this although I think it would look better without any colour but with the same toning, I find the pink bits on the boats and next to the building distracting. I would also try a version with blurred boats burned a bit to make them darker.
A very evocative shot with a lot more potential.

Good evening!
That's more like it! Many DIFFERENT opinions to get my head minced. That's why I love this place. :D
Cheryl - you are from everywhere aren't you! ;) How about coming up for the burning of the clayvie in January and we can throw embers at your relatives!
Panda - first to point out the aerials. I did notice them and wondered about that. Suspicions confirmed I suppose.
Spencer - do you mean the bottom right? not much detail there to rescue but might revisit that.
Steep - I did that but being December it wasn't so interesting;

;)
Neil - Great story! I never even noticed that!! Just assumed it would be local. Should have gone to the pub to find the visiting taffs!
Woody / Colin - The whites are VERY white so this was the best balance without greying them. B&W is a bit plain I think but a slightly more desaturated version does work. Thanks Colin, it was the potential I was looking for before spending more time. I will have to get to work

I certainly am  My gran's family (Davidson-Grigor) originated from the areas of Burghead & Elgin. Have never met any of them though. I'll visit one day before I emigrate :)
Tons of mood here Gary,an excellent work.
I saw it and didn't comment. A mono (or near mono - all the same to my colour vision) has to grab me or I'd just be saying the same thing each time. You won't find me replying to many mono posts.
This isn't one that I like. Looks like one of those 'fake model' shots to me where you try to make a real scene look like models.
