Or at least have an idea of genus etc so I stand a vague chance of a google hit?

was bimbling around my office this evening, about 5-10mm long and attracted to light. My first instinct was some kind of moth, but I didn't think they had carapaces over their wings? Or maybe some kind of beetle?

anyway...photos....

It's the Plague Beetle. You should be ok as long as you didn't get within 2 feet of it.

Is it native to this country?

My partener got bitten a few weeks ago and the bite went a funny colour. The doc said that there are new insects and bugs coming into this country at an alarming rate and odd bites are turning up on a daily basis.

Me thinks all imports should be fummigated prior to being customs cleared to enter the UK.

I have it on good authority that it is NOT a moth or a beetle. Maybe some type of leaf shield bug
