Went out to Dartmoor yesterday with Oliver9523 and his girlfriend. Had an awsome time! Revisited an old location as well as a few new ones.

Please tell me what you think! :]

Oh, did a pano as well. 5 Portrait shots over about 100 degrees.

I do like the first one, something about a focus point in amongst the blur of the background. Good one, mind you, they are all good.

the "others" didn't (for me) have an obvious focal point - a "why did I take this picture"?

Very nice. :) A lot better weather than we had last week, which reminds me, I still need to sort them out...

No 3 and 7 stand out for me.

I chose 3 over 2 as it sits more comfortably with my eye being landscape. I think this is cos I find full aps-c frames a bit too long for portrait shots. Try cropping off the bottom rock in No2 and you'll see what I mean, it sits more comfortably in the eye and has a nice line running through it from the rock to the water and into the background.

No 7 because the lines of the two outcrops lead your eyes out to the view. I'd be tempted to try and burn in the rhs and darken the lhs of the image as it'sa bit unbalanced at the moment.

HTH?

Excellent advice, and spot on to be honest. Hadn't seen either of those points that you made before. Shall give it a go.

Many thanks :)

Hope you don't mind, but I had a little play for 5 minutes and came up with this....

Just used a contrast mask as detailed Him Up Norths's tutorial thingy. Adjusted the levels of the mask and then painted directly into the mask to further burn an dodge bits.

Overcooked the sky a bit as there's obvious posterization but would work ok on a bigger version!

Ghandi, Not at all mate! Looks far better, nice one!

My effort was a little less in depth :/

Also, took your advice and cropped the river pic...

Crop works well also......
