Mixed bag

I took ages deciding. And even now it's all ordered and paid for I'm not sure

What do you think?

They're really good - I especially like the fishermen. I've been trying to put together a couple of style books while the offer's on, but I'm getting annoyed about their choice of fonts!!

I really like them all, but the fishermen shot gets my top vote :)

Thank you all! :)

So does this mean I handled a B&W conversion OK?

Looks fine to me.

3 nice images and I bet they are cracking at that large size!!

Is it limited to 3 images?

Jo
28-08-2007, 12:27
No it's not limited, that's the one thing I'm miffed about to be honest. I haven't got any others that would be good enough in that size  else I would have ordered loads more to fill my walls.

Can I also just say that so far so good! I ordered my three prints this morning right before I posted this thread, and I just got an email saying they have been dispatched! Now that is fast service, I just hope the quality is just as good.

I got a 15 x 10 done last week and the blacks were...well....black......it was just a mass of black with no graduation in the levels at all...all detail was lost. They definitely seem to print darker than my monitor (calibrated) anyway.

Anyway, at £5 it would be rude not to give it a go.

You'll have to take a pic of them up on the wall for us to see.

Generally great images.

My only niggle is the spade handle growing out of the little 'uns ear.

The fisherman as the other say is great

I just received my three today and I agree 100% with Brains, the prints are way darker than the images on the monitor. They are very good though, but certainly much darker.

I am going to have several more, need to choose which ones of my puppy shots to get for my family. May be 5 more on order later tonight.

I have to say though that the service is excellent. I ordered mine at 3:00pm on Friday, and by 5:00pm on Friday I had received an email stating they were dispatched. I was hoping that they may have been here on Sat - but sure that was expecting too much. They turned up first thing this morning though in well packaged container with a pleasant and personalised delivery note.

Will certainly be using them for additional items- especially around Christmas for gifts and pressies etc.

Hhhmmm, I've been toying with the idea of using Photobox, I even joined up yesterday to see what was available. I have noted a few people not only on this site mention that the photos come back a lot darker than was intended.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to brighten your shots in the editing software and then hopefully when they come back in the post, although they will be darker than your screen image, they will now be the right brightness afterall??

Definitely JPS... definitely.

I have no idea how to calibrate their printing to your monitor, nor if this can be done, but given the 30"x20" poster prints I received this morning I'd definitely do this prior to submitting the image to their site.

Don't be put off by this though, as their service and quality is par excellence - I am very impressed. I even rang the company last week after ordering my three prints to see (1) if I was entitled to order more, and (2) to ascertain when I would be likely to receive them. I was greeted by a very polite and friendly lady who's final comment to me after providing all the information and answers to my questions was... "thanks for using Photobox, and have fun taking pics" :)

Nice touch eh!

Finally - I'd suggest giving them a call and asking if there is a way to calibrate your monitor to their printing... you never know.

Update:
I just called photobox and spoke to en extremely helpful chap named Jay. He is printing and sending me a calibration card so I can adjust the settings on my monitor - or even create a PhotoShop filter (may need help from resident PS experts with this) - that I can use to ensure future images are printed with the correct levels etc.

Superb customer service...

It does sound like they value their custom then. What you need though is for them to go one step further - if they print one of your shots and it is clearly way too dark to be acceptable, maybe they could re-print and make it lighter at their end before posting out and the customer feeling that their new print is below par. Just an idea.

Just an idea. When I stated that I thought my prints were a tad dark, they instantly offered a free re-print. They even stated that I should wait until I have the colour card and my monitor set up as per their printing process, then call them and ask for Jay so he can apply the £5 price for me (as the offer would have expired by the time I get the card etc).

Superb customer service I have to say, totally superb.

Now that is good. Is he printing a different card than the standard one they issue?

Will be interesting to see if you can adjust your settings to match their print process.

It would be better if they could supply their printer profiles so we could "proof" the images in Photoshop etc before ordering. In the meantime think I'll send for the card too

He didn't hesitate in offering me a new set of prints.

They do!

And oops cause they sent me gloss copies when I ordered matt finish... a little phone call and they are sending me a new batch via recorded delivery so they get here tomorrow! How many companies do you know that are so fast to start with, and then just as fast to correct a problem? The Gloss ones are really good too, but I wanted matt. So really I got 6 prints at £2.50 each

PHOTOBOX ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!

As I mentioned in another thread a few days ago I can send you the Photobox printer profiles (gloss and matte) that you can use with Photoshop if that is any help.

To install the profiles go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color, open CS2, open image for printing, go to Edit > Convert to Profile > Destination space and choose profile (make sure Black Point Compensation and Use Dither are ticked).

If anyone wants them drop me a PM with your email address unless the mods can set up a way of making them downloadable from TP.
