does anyone have and idea what will hapepen to the d200
retail price and when with the d300 appearing soon
i have had mixed ideas from retailers
from they will run the d200 as a fill in from the d80 to the d300
to they will just discontinue the d200?
whats your guys thoughts?

I've read that it will continue between the D80 and the D300 too. The price might come down a touch though but unless it's discontinued I doubt there will be any massive price crashes going on.

:agree: ... but the second hand market may suffer for D200s as people sell them off to buy their latest must-have-need-it-badly gear ... :suspect:

Fingers crossed this is what will happen. (With the D2Xs)

probably will drop slightly, along with the d2x.

Personaly, I've started saving already for the full frame goodness of the D3. Finaly, proper wide-angles with no compromise on quality or sharpness. And dx crop for when I want super-telephoto! Hooray!!!!!!!

Nikon have said it will continue in production for the time being. I would expect some minor price decreases over the coming months.

It has already come down a lot in price since the turn of the year, I can't see it dropping too much more. My guess would be that about £760 will be the cheapest you'll find for within the next 8 months. I think they're going for about £810 at the moment, I bought mine about 4 months ago for £825.

I still can't believe I got mine (refurb, but perfect condition, only 400 shots taken) for only £560 a few months ago. Love ebay!

Enough smugness now, hehe.

I think the D200 is a bit more than a 'fill in' and will remain so. In my opinion, Canon have been better at having an upgrade path in smaller increments. Given the price of a D80 is under £500, the D300 will release at around £1200-1300, then it is easy to maintain the D200 at more than £750 for the quality camera it is compared to its peers. I can't see the price dropping that much for the next 9 months.
