Welcome to the 2011 Talk|Photography Photographer Of The Year Competition.

Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month


This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.

The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.



So on with the competition;

'LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!'

* Please note that any photos submitted must not be, or have been, shown on these forums before.
* From this year, no 'placeholders' will be permitted so enter carefully. Once you have placed an entry, you will not be able to replace it.
* To disqualify an image, we simply edit the post, removing the image in question, replacing it with a Staff message.If your entry has been disqualified due to image sizes, you may re-edit your post with a resized version of the same photo. This must be done by the closing date. All disqualified images that haven't been sorted by the closing date will be left out of the vote and marked VOID in the poll.

this is gonna be fun watching all the entries rolling in.... just a case of who kicks off on a popular theme and how high they set the bar..... could be a very tricky month and you only get one chance.... yikes!! :help:

Well I went out and took another 170 pictures again last night. Much much better experience, I learned loads from Monday's run that I saw a huge improvement in my shots. Just got to choose one to upload now!

Have to get 20 pictures edited and printed for display in the Theatre foyer. Opening night tonight!! :D I am so excited :D From tonight I am a wardrobe assistant and backstage hand. Multi talented am I.

Picture will appear whenever I can grab time, this week is soooo hectic and I will stick the rest on Flickr for those who are remotely interested.

Oh and if anyone hails from my area, please come to see us at the Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline between tonight and Saturday and support a local, hard working, amateur musical society.

I've started experimenting with an idea for this theme. So far my results have been sadly lacking. But I'll keep at it. Titch also says he has come up with an idea for the theme, so hopefully we'll get a chance to help each other out over the next week or two.

It's going to be a very steep learnign curve for him though. he got his new camera for his birthday, and together we will have to work out exactly what it's capable of, and this sort of theme could well push it, and him.....and me if I'm honest to our limits.:thinking:

Common problem - most people have just cut and pasted salient bits of one of the EXIF's into the entry post. Having the EXIF display is more about showing open-ness about the date/time the shot was taken. Most of the star-trails shots for example have had just this problem.

Mine was either going to be a fast moving train at a crossing or the RAF Boeing AWACS, i wasn't happy with the train shot as it was green and sort of light streamed into the bushes :lol: some great ones entered so far !

Agreed it should be very easy, accept I never seem to have my camera on me when there is a down pour, or even a coat come to think of it! :gag:

Had my camera with me yesterday when it rained. No coat or camera bag though, and perhaps more important - no flaming CF card in the Camera.

Note to self : leave a CF card in the car, just in case, and next time, take the Fed-3 film camera out with you if it looks like rain.

I guess this would be one of the Lightbulb shots ? If so - I doubt that you'd be able to re-create the shot exactly - smoke/fumes etc tend to have a mind of their own, so it's not going to be exactly the same anyway, is it?

No worries Neil - from the EXIF, its plain to see it was taken earlier this evening, so there's no doubt it's orginal work.

Just as an aside, don't put this shot up for Crit or anything else until the voting's over in around 10 days time... we've had people enter shots before and 10 minutes later post them in the Crit forums, then wonder why the shot was DQ'ed :lol:

I have an entry, one that I'm not as happy with but still fits the theme. I'd rather bring that in than not put an entry in at all. I only started last month and achived 2 votes, so every vote counts in me catching up and taking the main prize ;) :lol:

Hey Dougie, no worries - we all hit a wall with inspiration now and then. Take the extra time, and make the July entry a cracker instead mate :thumbs:

The POTY competition to me, is all about getting people out there, inspired and using their camera and honing their skills. If you're not "feeling the love" for the topic, it can become work, rather than pleasure. I know last year's "Street Photography" was probably the worst month i've encountered with the comp. and I came soooooooooo close to a no show that month. It happens to us all at some point. :thinking: Well - maybe not Jon and Alex, but to the rest of us mortals... ;)

My wife is due to give birth any day now so I only hope time will be on my side in getting an entry in. A lot of late nights and screams are awaiting me!
