Found this Dog Rose this afternoon & the hips were nearly all turning into this. Not sure what caused it but my guess would be an insect of some sort. Anybody know?

It's a rose gall, sawman....or robin's pincushion, caused by the larvae of the gall wasp. The larva itself lives in the centre of the gall.

it is rather pretty in it's own right!..looks like something they make eyelash yarn out of...for knitting! :lol:
