Hey All
One for Ven and the other twitchers here please... I took this shot which has been tightly cropped and so is not a very good image I'm afraid - when I was in South Africa a few weeks ago. I was a fair way from the bird but managed to get this as a nice'ish crop but have no idea what the bird is.
Anyone know...?

Dunno, but have a look here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacksmith_Lapwing)
Also, this (http://www.surfbirds.com/trip_report.php?id=85) recorded 24 seen daily, so I guess they're not uncommon
Ahhhh... the power of Google ;)

Thanks Ven... appreciate the feedback. It's quite a tight crop though from the original, and I didn't hold the camera steady enough at full (though short) zoom on my E-400. Went to this reserve the day before I got hold of my E-510 which might have made it easier with its on camera IS.
Thanks for the comments though... I do like me birdies... the two legged type of course :)

BTW, sorry MusicMan...how rude of me to tell you what it was without commenting on your photo...., but yes it is a really good shot. I guess that they could be quick little blighters (if they're anything like our Ringed and Little-Ringed Plovers).
Looks like quite a contrasty subject in harsh light so you've done well to retain some detail in both the black and white plumage.
We're hoping to go the Kenya early next year and I'd be pleased to bag a few bird shots like that.
Rich :)
