Hi Gang,

I've been approached by a small independent production company that want to use a photo of mine for a DVD documentary.

They want me to suggest a fee - but I have no clue where to start with pricing... does anybody have any suggestions?

Also the photo if of a famous female singer at a gig - do i need a model release signature from her before the photo can be used.

Any help would really be appreciated.

No clue about the DVD pricing but as for the picture of a 'famous female singer'. It's not a model release form her you need, you'll need to check the photo rights of the building the picture was taken in. Check the building/stadium/back of ticket etc..

A model release might be needed depending the usage - the singer might not be happy if her image is being used to promote/endorse the product.

As for pricing find out what rights they want and the distribution size and region (UK, Europe, World). Then you can get a guide price from one of the stock agency sites.

Its more likely that you will need a signed form from her production manager if taken at a gig. As for price I would charge around £175.00 for uk distribution and about £500.00 for worldwide distribution.
