Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month

This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.

The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.

So on with the competition;

The theme for JULY is:
'GETTIN' WET!'

On the water, by the water, in the water. Make a Splash.

I have HUNDREDS of pictures of my ocean going Labradors. This could be a good month for them then as I can see they are going to get PLENTY beach time - which as many of you know, second only to food is a labrador's favorite thing :)

Got my pic done and dusted last night. I was going to hold off posting until Jack's christening next week but him spashing about in the bath was too good an opportunity to miss.

He looks marginally wet and I got soaked; 'gettin wet' was achieved on both counts.

Well this month I think I took the theme tooo seriously, my model got wet which was the intention, then I got soaked up to the shoulders by a ra[pid incoming tide - luckily saving my camera held up high above the waves, but my poor phone died its death from the manky muddy saltwater near Weston - it was a chilly and wet drive home lol.
Had to share a couple of our out takes with you all -

Any ideas when we will be getting a glimpse of the new title? - I'm out this weekend, and if it's something that would fit with where I'm going, I could tailor a shot to suit.

Well thats my image in for this month, I decided to step out of the box alittle this month and be out of my confort zone and not do a seascape image and take the theme to its word like zarozinia has done and got wet myself by jumping into the swimming pool in the back garden and try some underwater photography with my youngest playing her part.

it was great fun, and it has made me thinking about getting a case for my nikon and having a go at other stuff like this, because this is a waterproof compact that i used for this months image and would love to see what better quality the pictures would be using the case and a nikon DSLR, its just a little expensive.

A guy I work beside is a Diver/underwater photographer. He uses a Nikon D70 & D80 with full housings which yes your right, are certainly not cheap. He quoted that it will be some time before he gets a housing for his D90.

If you need any further info give me a shout and I can ask him any questions on your behalf.

i got a waterproof case for my camera last year for my birthday (i didn't ask for it - but i guess people just think it would be useful to me). It was about £70 and is really just for just under the surface stuff like Jon's shot.
i've just not used it yet because a) not too sure if i trust it 100% and b) not too sure if i trust it 100% :gag:

it has locking clasps on what is basically a thick plastic bag with a housing for a lens in hard plastic. i've locked the bag when empty and put in the sink full of water and no leakage or bubbles... so i guess i'll just have to go for it :bonk:

well for those who haven't submitted an entry yet (including me)... there's enough rain knocking about right now to make every shot you take fit the theme (outdoors). I tried a few options at the weekend, but all were things i spotted in passing not things i'd actually planned to shoot :bonk:

Went out yesterday, and forced myself to shoot something out of my comfort zone - a shot with people in. Came home, fairly chuffed, only to look in the entries thread and realise that someone had already posted a far superior shot on a similar theme. :bonk:

25-07-2011, 09:16
Well - I'm in. Decided to step outside my comfort zone and actually take a picture with people in it for once! If I ever include people in a shot, they're almost always either an accident, or carefully positioned bits of "moveable foreground interest" provided by mates, so actually shooting normal people going about their Sunday afternoon drowning was a bit of a stretch for me,

Local "Yacht Club" were having their regular Sunday afternoon races, and the pair i the photo came a box of tricks after rounding the #9 marker, right in front of the Clubhouse. Really considerate of them I thought. I ended up with a shot for the competition, and the bloke ended up with a bag of crisps for his Sunday Dinner after Dunking the Wife in the water for half a hour! They were actually close enough to land to hear her screeching at him

I stuck with my original idea with my Labradors. They *LOVE* water, especially Bo (with the ball in his mouth) so there really only was one way I was going with this. The picture I posted is exactly what "Gettin' Wet" means to me :).

I had a fabulous time down the beach with my dogs and their friends. It was really hard picking which image to use! I even got a tan in the few short days of the Scottish Summer. This has been the best theme for me so far, because it was so much fun to shoot and I got to spend time with my dogs, their friends and my friends. There was BBQ's and beer on the beach. All in the name of POTY!

All in all I had 4 days on the beach with the dogs. Anyone of a doggy persuasion who wants to look at the rest of the set, please do swing by my Flickr and have a nosy.

Thanks BigYin! I remembered that the reason I was doing POTY was to give me inspiration for and a reason to go out and take pictures. For me this is about getting experience and as it is a hobby then it should be enjoyable. Every picture from the shoot were happy ones and just looking at them make me smile.

I guess that's what we need to keep in mind with the monthly topics here - some will suit one person down to the ground, whilst scaring another up a tree!

It's great to hear from Vikki how well it suited her, and how much she enjoyed it. Because at the end of the day, the POTY is really about getting people out there - shooting pictures - and striving to take the best photograph within the theme that they can.

Okay - it's nice if people also agree with you that it's a good picture - it's even better if they vote for you, but the two important things you should take out of any months competition are that you've taken the best shot you were able to do, and that you enjoyed the process of taking it. :)

I couldn't agree more there. I dont think I would have ever tried what I did this month or get up at 5 am for the "Be Still" Theme or stay up till gone 2 am for the "Lights Camera Action" theme. I'm so glad I started to enter this year (even though it seems to have taken over my life) it certainly has made my photography much more interesting and challenging. Shooting people in a studio or the same old ND sunsets can get a little boring :)

You're not kidding there - if someone would have said I'd have created a Rembrandt style still life, or faked a mortuary, and climbed up onto a trolley with a toe-tag on my cold blue feet just for a photograph, I'd have laughed in their face!
