Portrait of a friendly resting cranefly. It's modified back wing the Haltere shows up well in the second image. It's the thing that looks like a drum stick bottom right.;)

The clarity and detail in these are amazing even by your standards, especially around the mouthparts.

Yes LB that's its mouth parts in full, they eat pollen.:D

I suppose, to another crane fly, this is a very cool dude (or dudess:shrug:) I agree with LB, and I wouldn't hang around to get acquainted with it. :runaway:

The detail is scary, but ... what fantastic pics. I keep going back to them and each time find more detail. Brilliant.
