Just wondering from those that already have a system in place what sort of rates they charge for a day and/or half-day? having myself been asked a number of times to be places to cover events etc. just wondering what might be seen as normal rather than under-sell or p*ss-take OTT...

approx for Photography

Full day - £ 450
Half day - £ 250

Would that be just for your time spent on the shoot or for the photos too?

Our works photographer charges about that for the day and will inlcude basic PP work (levels, colour and dust etc) but anything extensive he charges upto £75 an hour for.

I would say prints and usage for the web are on top of your daily rate (i think).

Thats just my rate for the day which includes time for a quick to jpg PP. If they want any special PP work thats charged at £50 per hour. Usage of prints and prints of photos etc are all priced separate depending on what the deal was and their needs. I also charge mileage and travel time.

Was just about to say dont forget out of pocket expenses such as mileage. Looks about right on the day rate. PP rates vary but £50 hourly upwards is about right.
Useage and rights, NUJ have a very good rights and useage guide, try and stick to it as far as possible and always quote it as an industry 'standard'. Those that wince, and some do, will either seek to negotiate on their own rates eg a page rate of £300 for example, or have to go back to the finance about their budgets etc.
