Newbie to photography/portraiture

I just recently got a new camera, in the sig, had it a month.
You may have found my lurking in Talk Photography, Cameras Lenses and Accessories, and General Photo Sharing, but this is the first time I have ventured into the People and Portraits.
So, here are a few of my favourites that I've taken.

I like these portraits, although #2 could probably do with a lighten around the eyes to bring them out more. #3 is my favourite. I don't know why, there's just something about it that really appeals to me.
