Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month
This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.
The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.
So on with the competition;
The theme for AUGUST is:
'FEEL THE HEAT!'
It's August, temperatures are soaring (ok, some imagination required!), make us melt!

* Please note that any photos submitted must not be, or have been, shown on these forums before.
* From this year, no 'placeholders' will be permitted so enter carefully. Once you have placed an entry, you will not be able to replace it.
* To disqualify an image, we simply edit the post, removing the image in question, replacing it with a Staff message.If your entry has been disqualified due to image sizes, you may re-edit your post with a resized version of the same photo. This must be done by the closing date. All disqualified images that haven't been sorted by the closing date will be left out of the vote and marked VOID in the poll.
* If anyone wishes to bring one of the images to the attention of the staff for this or whatever reason, then please use the RTM button under the post in question (It looks like this http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/images/custom_blue/buttons/report.gif).
This thread is for DISCUSSION only do NOT post any entries in here. The Entries thread will be started on the first day of the month.

I told Ryan what the title was first thing this morning - And straight away he came up with an idea which could work quite well.
I on the other hand am stumped at the moment. I had an idea while driving to work, but don't know if it's possible to set up. :shrug:

Well - i may have set myself an impossible challenge this time round!
I had an idea of what sort of shot I wanted, did a few test shots, which didn't really work. Sheer dumb luck landed me with the prop I need (I was planning on asking in the local rubbish dump for a broken one.)
So now it's a case of working out how to assemble it all, and shoot it without burning myself (too badly) ....Of course, it may once again end up being a totally un-planned shot.
Well I'm on holiday until the end of August so hoping I can get the shot I'm thinking of then upload whilst on holiday.
If not it'll be a mad dash on the bank holiday Monday to upload before the deadline!

I have no idea what to do for this month and it seems to be a reoccurring theme. It's obviously getting to me because last night I dreamt that my washing machine caught fire and after we'd dragged it into the garden and doused it in water I remember thinking, hmm, if I'd left it to burn it would've been a good photo for this month's competition.
I'm sure that's not healthy. :(

danny (wiggy1983) was kind enough to explain how to post a shot from flickr hosting by copying and pasting the BB code. After i'd sorted the shot, I tidied his post away, but I didn't want him to think his efforts weren't appreciated....
If anyone spots something like this in future, simply RTM the posting and it'll pop up in the staff room, and one of the Mod Team will sort it asap.

Stick with it lads - I didn't have a scooby about this one, until a couple of days before I posted - I was sure this was going to be my first missed month since january 2009, but out of the blue, an idea came to me.

I hope so because that is what I have done. I took both my shots on the same day however. The exif remains for the shot that is not the merged one.

If I remember correctly, as long as the two pictures are taken within the time frame for entries it will be OK.:thumbs:

that cool , going to be doing mine over the weekend , got hte perfect candidate but the second image the merging image is going to be the tricky one but a can of the old juice might have to do lol
not had a go since last year never can be bothered to get of my a$$ , so i have decided to have a go and see what happens

If I add something now, can I change the image later (before the closing date) by editing my original post? I have one which I like but I am not 100% sold on it as things stand so would try to get a reshoot or something different

:rules: No - once you've entered a picture, it has to remain as that picture...
There MAY even be someone who is checksumming each photo, to see that it isn't changed at a later date...

How to submit an entry
Each month, a new thread will be started in the Photographer of the Year Forum (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29), with the round details in, entitled "Entries". To enter, simply post your image in the thread.
There will also be a second thread running concurrently, entitled "Discussion", This thread allows discussion regarding the month's theme.
At the end of the round, a poll will be added where you can vote for your favourite photographs. This will be a multiple choice poll, where you may vote for as many or as few shots as you like. Please do not vote for your own entry.
Voting ends at 23:59 on the 7th of the following month (roughly 7 days voting).
Entries containing nudity must be posted as a link to your image with a NSFW warning next to it.
Please do not post a 'place holder' or 'temporary entry'. Once you have posted an entry, you may not change it. If you do change it, your entry may be disqualified.

I've tried a couple of things - But so far nothing has struck me as being the right image, or good enough.
Add to that our internet connection is down at the moment - I might be hard pressed to get anything sorted this time round.:(

I showed my entry to some friends and they asked if i photoshopped the image and that made me think... id like to point out that all elements were photographed as seen. Some chechnyan friends were kind enough to lone me some of their inventory :D , for some reason they never stuck around for the shoot.

Normally there are 2 pages of entries by now, it's a shame people are dropping out.
Has anybody else noticed a bit of a decline as the months go on ?
Maybe there will be a last minute rush :thinking: ....and the higher percentage of calls to the fire brigade :lol:

It always falls off a little in the summer months Graham, though I'm in agreement that it's a shame people are dropping out. The first couple of months always have a good entry, lots of people with their new camera kit that santa brought them (that's how I started a couple of years ago). It's just a matter of carrying that momentum forward and keeping it rolling though the year I guess.
Last year there was a thread (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=273898&highlight=POTY) created, where suggestions on how we could improve the competition were invited. A couple of the rule changes that were implemented this year (the no placeholders, and entries being within a given timescale) came out of this thread. I think we may well need to do the same again this year, especially with a view to ensuring that people keep entering through the year.
That said, as I'm sure a number of our regulars will vouch for - it's a pretty large commitment to actually enter 12 potential winning pictures in a year! It's no coincidence that most of the people who win the POTY don't enter the following year - they're ready for a break!
I have vowed to enter all 12 rounds whether my images get placed or not.
Can't ask for more dedication than that!
