only got photos from saturday to post. There wont be any from Sunday as some gareth hunt stole my 1d mk2N and 70-200L from the media centre.
as usual, these are the shots that are ones i would like C+C on together with a few action ones.

4) too much in the background?
http://www.xynamic.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=6552&g2_serialNumber=2
5) slanting time!

10) Does it work? I'm not sure
http://www.xynamic.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=6666&g2_serialNumber=1
anyway, thats the last you'll be seeing from me for a while, and possibly ever. I dont think the insurance will pay out because the camera and lens wasnt locked away. But I'll give it a damn hard try. If it doesnt work, then its bye bye to MS Photography.
Sorry to hear of your theft at Brands, pictures though are very good, I hope it all works out in the end for you.
**** sorry to heatr about the camera mate, you have the 400mm on a mono-pod while taking the flying Seat? If so i was standing next to at that point, well virtually any way.
1) cant fault it tbh
2) ask the marshalls to move, or go for the Marshall with the car blurr'd.
3) id prefer the car closer to an edge.
4) nice, very nice, maybe lower the black point in a levels adjustment, as there kinda greyish
5) id did that there, but have deleted them.
6) just the black thing again.
7) i think id be more inclined to crop the bott of a tad.
8) nice, but use a poliser next time, youl get rid of the reflection and see his eyes.
9) the Ferrari, really needs to be at that height but much closer to the right hand boarder, this would then include the following car.
10) Not sure
Nice shots, interesting to see a different approach, rather than just focussing just on the cars themselves (like I have done) and getting more of the event in there. Something I need to learn I think, it's all too easy to snap away at cars, but capturing the event is much more difficult.
I especially like number 3, and yes it does work.
I'm trying to figure out where no 1 and no 6 were taken? and which side of the fence you were?
Oh and sorry to hear about you're kit being nicked

I'm in agreement with Rhubarb here - I like your style of shots far more than what I normally end up with. Backing off and getting more of everything else in seems to really work. However I do note its not just random backing off as you still have avoided the clutter!
I shall write some reminders in my book to try something like these next time - I really like them!

i'm very much guilty of taking shots of just the cars, so i've been purposely trying something different and then posting them here for comments. Normally my shots are just full frame car shots (which i much prefer anyway)
rd: thanks for the comments, i know what you mean about the back of the ferrari, but i was shooting with 400L and 1.4TC so could only use the centre focus square.
number 1 was taken on the inside of paddock hill. number 6 on the inside of westfield. I was on the dangerous side of the fence for all except number 7. although 4, 5, 6, 8 would have been possible from the public side anyway (with maybe a bit of extra zoom ;) )
thanks again for your comments guys. thats why i post here :)
The rear end of the Porsche is a tad out of focus but the rest look great.
You must be really gutted about your gear. I felt sick enough at destrying my £250 panasonic compact in the rain at Brands so I can only imagine how you feel with your gear being knicked. Lets hope the insurance company is feeling generous.

I see, try one of 2 things next time that work with the 30d, so should with the mk2n i would have thought. Without try to teach you to suck eggs.
Try to get focus lock on the center of the car, then let the focus drift just of the point of the car just before shooting, providing you have a slight focus delay on the camera it should hold focus dispite the point not being on the car.
Or
Try manual that takes practice, but thats what i love about the 400mm as the manual focus is always available not matter if the lens is set to AF.
Nice shots though, hope to see more of your work again soon, so fingers crossed with the insurance, could they not have been stolen from the car?

i get what youre saying, but with shot like the car bottoming out like that you dont know its going to happen, so your only choice it to use the auto focus. otherwise the shot is gone.

My thoughts :
1. Very good, slow shutter speed and still a sharp picture.
2. Doesn't really do anything for me, just looks like some marshals got in the way of your shot.
3. Again, doesn't really say much.
4. You're right - too much in the background, otherwise would be a very nice shot!
5. Nice angle and light.
6. Good shot, again spoilt by too much in the background
7. Doesn't do a lot for me.
8. Nice closeup.
9. You can tell this was shot on a lens with converter! The image quality is definitely lower than the others. Nice capture though, I'd crop it so the car is more in the bottom right.
10. I like.
Bad luck about losing your gear. I left the media centre at about 7.30 on Saturday, there was only a few people left, but didn't notice any cameras or anything lying around. In future I would suggest taking everything with you or putting it in a locker!

welcome mike :)
As i got banned from your section at ten-tenths i guess i should ban you from here :) (joking)
thanks for the comments - appreciate it
unfortunately i doubt there will be another chance for me to leave anything in the media centre as I cant afford to buy it all again. I'll still be paying off the stolen stuff for a good few years yet anyway.
I'm really sorry to hear that some toerag got away with your stuff. I hope you are able to get something sorted out as your pictures are always worth looking at.
As for the C&C, here are my thoughts: -
1 Nice sharp shot as usual :)
2 Doesn't work for me, I think you were trying to avoid the obvious route of keeping the Marshalls in focus.
3 I like the idea, but too much green stuff at the bottom. I think this, and even more so number 10 would like really nice as a 'panaromic' widescreen type shot, if you see what I mean.
4 I'd tend to agree that the background is a bit too busy.
5 & 6 I like both these, which is strange as I'm usually not a fan of the slanting/angled shots.
7 Ouch, that looks nasty (the damage, not your picture ;))
8 Excellent close-up, but a bit more of a view might have helped the impression of speed?
9 I like this a lot, even though, as mentioned, the IQ is slightly lower than the others. I really like the heat haze above the cars.
10 See 3.
Anyway, fingers crossed you can sort something out.

Gary, as seems customary on this thread, I'll answer like this;
1. Technically great, superb sense of speed.
2. Unusual shot, sort a 'nearly' shot, but I actually like it. Great colours.
3. I think the composition works well, but might have been a *bit* better if the car was just slightly more towards the center of frame.
4. Love it ! Like the locked up rear wheels - you can almost see it going sideways.
5. Well captured but just too angled for me.
6. It was worth the wait - great shot, well caught.
7. OK
8. OK
9. Like it, well timed
10. Kinda works, its a nice shot
Really good, varied and interesting set.

Really sorry to hear about the theft. Take it you're not covered by any household or specialist insurance then?
Also, appologies for going a little off topic but how did you go about getting access to the media centre and/or media jackets so you can get the right side of the fencing? Really want to get more into my motorsport photography but finding some circuits are really limiting in the available positions for good unobstructed views.

the camera was unattended so not covered by the insurance, but i'll try anyway.
to get on the otherside you basically need to be shooting for a newspaper, magazine or agency. One that can deliver good publicity for the series or the circuit. websites are also a possibility, but much less likely to be accepted.
Like the variation in the shots, always good to see somebody else getting away from the normal brands shots! Most of the comments I agree with.
I think for number 2 to work as an image the car in focus needs to be the pace car/safety car. Then the person, the marshal and the other car would make sense being there and having them in the image.
#10 works if you crop out the top left. Take a line across from around where JP's green paint, grass and kerb meet and then remove the armco that left in that corner.
Just my thoughts.
Sorry to hear what happerned about your kit, have you spoken to "who ever was signing people in ;)" at Brands to ask around? Being WTCC bit of a long shot but hey who knows.
Shaun

Unfortunately it's more common than you think, spoke to someone the other week who had a mkIIn, 70-200 and a 24-70 go walkies from Wimbledon, of all places! He didn't worry as it wasn't his own kit, unlike the rest of us mere mortels.

That doesn't look particularly blurry to me.. a bit whacked by the light reflection from the shiny black car but...
Of course a black item is going to give you focus problems - less light reflected and little contrast.
BTW, his flame unit wasn't working on every lap and I was trying to get some good flame pics so was shooting him everytime. Can't see any noticeable improvement on the shots with no flames - how about you? (just to explore your theory)
