Considering the very high ISO's he was using they are pretty impressive for straight out of the camera JPEGs.

Very nice but I still can't justify the £3400 required :'(

However, it looks good news in 18months for when Nikon put that sensor into a smaller body for less than 1/2 the price.

Yep, gorgeous photographs... well... 99.9% of them are yes.

If I ever get experienced enough, and end up being asked to photograph a B&G at their wedding, there's no way on this planet a shot such as number 2 from this set would have made it to my 'please proof these shots' album. What on earth is that ugly TV doing sticking up in the corner...?

Maybe I am showing my ignorance here, or lack of creativity, or lack of imagination I don't know, but for Christs sake it's even right in front of the bride obscuring her dress!!!!:shrug:

I meen by the way your all going on about the ISO, it's nothing new my 1DMK2N has been doing ISO 1600 that good for 3 years.

To my inexperienced eye - sorry, but there's a massive difference in the shots on the OP's link compared to the ones you posted. The first one is very very grainy, and that is at 1600.

Some on that site are at ISO above this and are significantly less grainy or noisy.

I am certain that your 1DMK2N works well and has been working well for you for 3 years; but that's not really what this thread is about... is it...?.:shrug:

And look how much smaller the other pics are, less than half the size of the ones i put up. The 1st shot of mine is a bit grainy at the back of the church as that area was almost pitch black.
And yes the thread is about this, lets see large pictures and then compare how much better the ISO is.

People... let's not see this develop into a Nikon/Canon squabble. I think it's a fair point that the pics are a bit small and noise will become more evident as the image size increases, but let's wait and see before we start judging the camera one way or the other on this showing. ;)

LOL. To be honest, I use 800 ISO a lot on my 1DMK2n, and 1000 when I'm really pushed, but 1600 ISO just doesn't hack it for me. Check out the groom's suit in that first shot of yours Papa. ;)

I no that at times the grain can be seen in very dark area's but my point was that you cant start to say how great the Nikon is without big images. I am sure it will be great as is the Canon 1D MK3 but little pictures we can hardly see, is not the way to prove how great the ISO is.

Indeed. I'm squirreling away money right now for this baby.

The thought of being able to handhold my shots for work and get good clean images is gonna be huge for me.

it's pretty inevitable that the nikon is gonna have better high iso and detail resolving power than the top-end canon through the basic physics of the size of the pixels and defraction/diffusion.

more MP on a same size sensor is always going to be noisier and softer through smaller photosites.

It will swing back the other way when canon reduce their next set of updates.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter one hoot which is better. You all know why ;)

:thumbs: Very nice pictures, helped by the smashing setting no doubt but still very impressive. Guess I need to put in an extra few hundred overtime hours at work to save for one of these.....then there's the decorating that needs doing......the holiday the wife wants to go on.......the new house she wants......new car......damn I'm already skint. :nuts:

I am a true Canon user and always will be but this is about the Nikon and given Nikons past ISO performance I believe its due a right to be mentioned.?!?

This rivalry is GOOD ! Else Canon is just going to sit on its arse and keep upping the pixel count without improving the ISO performance (aka 40D). I personally think the D3 is great and can't wait for canon to bring out the 5D MKII and see how that fare against it.

IF! those are to be believed.... and I have to say I don't buy it (yet) then it's' bye bye canon.

The only realy trouble will be the amount of money involved, as canon values on existing bodies will plumet if nikon take such a step ahead. Even if it's only for a little while. Sure canon will make up the ground (as as others have said and probably more) but I can't not have that high ISO tool in my arsenal if it's available.

If nikon could make a version of this camera to take canon fit lenses can you imagine how many they'd sell.:eek:

From what I can see, Nikon have a great sensor there...that high ISO is VERY good (and I'm a Canon fan).

It's all good for the consumer!
