I finally bought one of these now I have my 5D - problem is that it doesn't work? I've been in touch with the company I bought it from & they said to "please try to switch the remote mode of your camera on."
Am I missing something - I had no idea there was a remote mode & I don't have time to be searching everywhere to find a solution.

Cheers

News to me mate, unless it's something peculiar to the 5D. With the 20D and 1DMK2n, you just plug 'em in and you're good to go.

well I bought a cheapo one off fleabay (£2.99 iirc) and I've no need to switch to any mode on the 400d, works as soon as I plug it in and to my amazement it is two stage click so can have it on auto focus which is great. me thinks you may have a moody one.

Likewise for the 5d - it uses the N3 socket i assume rather than an actual cable activating shutter mechanically? For some of the functionality of the TC remote you need the camera in bulb...... but this sounds like a dodgy cable i'm afraid

El Cheapo cable from ebay here too
No fumbling of settings ... I just pushed it into the 3-pin hole socket ... and away I went!

Cheers for the help everyone. I had presumed that there was a problem with the cable :(
Will get it sent back now

I thought the timer was the remote mode?

Tried that, nothing works, not registering the remote at all unfortunately.

You dont have autofocus and exposure lock the opposite way round or anything in your custom functions do you?

My first one wouldnt autofocus.. and therefore wouldnt realease the shutter....till I realised my faux pas! ;)

Thanks for the tip Janice, I do actually have that function set but have tried all of the different modes (I think I've been through every function my camera has trying to get this to work )

Yeah the cable release just emluates the shutter button, so if your shutter button is set to not focus, the cable wont either.

Where was that from? I can either get a refund or a replacement & I'm not sure which? The one I got was 3m & cost £15
