add colour

im very new to digital,i have some great b&w photos that i want to add colour,but dont know where to start.

Hi and :welcome: to the forums :wave:

Assuming you're using Photoshop or similar, add a layer above your image and change the layer blending mode to "Colour". Now pick a colour that you want to paint with and you'll actually colour the image. You'll almost certainly need to lower the opacity to get the effect you want. Just keep adding new layers for new colours until you feel you've finished :)

You might want to have a look at the program 'Recolored'. It is now at version 1.01 and costs $50 but the free beta version 0.7.1 (I think) is still floating around on the Internet. I got some not bad results just playing around with it a while ago.
