Spotting Jotters at the ready....:rules:

A couple of shots taken at various times of the year of some trains starting the climb out of the English side of the Severn Tunnel on the long steep climb up to Bristol.

Trains have already been climbing since the mid point of the River Severn (some 1.5miles from this location) and are already working hard up the 6mile climb.

HST takes on the climb at speed late on a spring eve.

In typical British Summer weather a railtour climbs the bank

Another rail tour works hard climbing the bank on what was a freezing cold morning

1st is too dark, although the diesel fumes look kinda funky
2nd is the best of the set
3rd, you missed the focus point.

Interesting second shot, i attended a incident in Kent a good few years back when somebody hanging out the window like that had half his head taken off by a bridge,
i had hoped lessons had been learned.
Had a look at your flickr account, you have some really great shots there,
one of my favs is the fishermen on the beach.

Nice , but when will a steamer travel that way, you'll get lots of puffing smoke/steam up that hill.:lol:

1st is too dark........

Nonsense. Why do so many people have a problem with dark areas in a shot? It's the lovely directional light giving great contrast between the front and side of the train and also picking up the tracks that make that shot.

HST's, how much longer have they got before they get phased out like the 47's have been (or near enough anyway)?

@Oldgit
Agree with the third of the missed focus, the problem I had that morning was that it was very cold and windy and was struggling to be able to stand still...excuses excuses....

@Sadlybrokeboy
These are all taken at Pilning Station just the other side of Easter Compton, Bristol.

@JPS
Many of the First Greatwestern HST's are now being re-engined for clocking up another astronomical amount of miles for many years to come. There are 47's still around but only a very small handful operated by small private operators.
