ok was bit bored tonight so thought i'd experiment. I've seen some nice HDR images and i've not really tried yet. I didnt have 3 images so I went opposite way

I picked really bad shot & made 3 images at random in photoshop to simulate bracketing (i know its not really HDR:D) but i just wanted to see if it would enhance, make passible a really bad shot. you get general idea.

Before you answer i know its bad original shot, I know it wasnt brilliant in photoshop, just pulled curve to left & right with no thought and used pretty high settings in photomax.

taking all these aspects into concideration, if you actually had ok but not spectacular photo, could HDR make it a good shot or enhance an average shot or will crap still be crap. I mean if you take time & care over adjustments etc

Ps i know Petes just gonna hate it :naughty:

That's so subtle .
Without the original it'd be impossible to tell ;)

I think Ratty's being sarctastic. As for whether HDR can make an ok shot good, well can B&W or any processing? All processing does is finalise a great shot. I don't think the HDR shot is too bad. Its a bit high saturated with some odd blotches in the sky, but not tooo bad.

ok this may be a dumb question, but can someone pls tell me the diff between HDR and taking 2 or 3 exposures of one image and combining them??

The images are all taken at diffrent exspsoures this adds the high dynamic range to the shot plus the whole of the photograph is used. Then the images are blended together, where as just combining images won't give you the same realilistic effect. HDR really is just another way of combining images but looking for the best tones in the images.

yip figured it out, bit slow on uptake as i was concentrating on something else, bit of a no brain day, bit like yourself 'but not tooo bad' yeah it is, but was intended that way. I've seen your pics taking a guess even without HDR they would be good.

As for HDR experience, it took about 5 mins to figure out how to do obviously to tweek & get right will be bit longer. So anybody want to try, its not a hard program to learn basic in few mins, might take few years longer to get as good as Pete but probably worth a try.
