Hello. I haven't posted many pics, but I'm posting this because I've just tried a new edit technique on one, and the other was edited months ago. I like one more than the other, but I'm interested in what others think.

So, which of these 2 pics do you like the best, and why?

I know it is not a great pic btw, so just which appeals more. :)

Thanks.

On my office monitor, and on first inspection, the first is the better looking image. Colours are more saturated. The second shot looks to have a "cooler" more blueish cast to it.

Having said that, although noisier, the second image contains more detail. The black smoke is "smoother" in the first, as are the flames.

In short I now don't know which I prefer.

What edit technique did apply?

Personally, I prefer the colours in the 1st image, but the 2nd looks to have been sharpened a tad more. Overall... I'd say the 1st one, but it would be even better if sharpened.

The 2nd seems to have noise in it, especially in the smoke...??!!

Thanks for replying.

Unfortunately it seems that imageshack is down at the moment, so no pics. Timing is everything. :(

Anyway, the 1st pic was converted from Raw with Nikon Capture NX, and is just how I would convert any pic with either NX or Adobe Camera Raw.

The 2nd pic is one of my first attempts at doing HDR with Photomatix. I'm glad it didn't initially (for the few that appear to have seen it ;) ) scream out HDR. I liked the extra detail in the flames, and it seemed to give the image more depth, but at the cost of extra noise. I think it looked sharper because HDR gives the impression of sharp detail as a side effect of the process, as they were both sharpened the same amount after resizing.

Hopefully I'll get some more feedback when people can see the pictures. ;)

Imageshack seems to be working again.

Can you give the pics the once over and tell me if which you prefer, and why? ;)

I like the colours better in the 1st one, you can feel the heat more. The 2nd has better detail but with tradeoff in colour, maybe you can do more pp on it to bring back some of the original colour.

OOh! is that what they call a Hot Shot! :p

I prefer the 1st shot too and agree with Zero's comments.

I do find the overly bright white helemt of the guy in the bg just a tad too distracting in the first shot though.
Maybe worth toning it down just a tad.

I prefer the first and I did think HDR when I saw the second one - mainly due to noise and strange contrasts (the helmet particularly).

I had a go at matching the colours from the 2nd with the 1st, even with similar colours I still prefer the 1st. In the second the extra detail has placed extra emphasis on the flames taking away from the rider.

Thanks for the comments. :)

I'll try a version upping the colours a bit of the HDR version, and see how it looks.

It was only my 2nd or 3rd attempt at HDR, so I'll have to look into learning to use some noise reduction. ;)

It was interesting to see the detail of the helmet of the motorcyclist observer in the background from the HDR process.

Thanks again for commenting. It gives me somethings to think about. :D
