Jolly good Saturday morning to you all...:)
I am after some expert advice here as I was pondering something after recently reading of the many 'publishing successes' from several excellent togs on here. So, ok... you're out taking a few pics, of whatever subject you're taking at that time, and when you come to process them, you dislike many, you like some, and love just that one or two.
What if you think... "hmmm... I wonder if this pic could ever be published and used..?". What does one actually do with the pic...?
Obviously this depends on the subject matter, but what if one took a great reportage shot - should you send it the local rag..? if you took a great nature shot - send it to National Geographic...? I have no idea to be honest, but what does one do with any pics one has where one feels the pic is publishable material...?
There's a plethora of magazines, journals, publishers, papers etc. out there, covering an even larger range of subjects. Agriculture, Sports, Teenager Magazines, Music, Yachting, Cars, Bridal etc... Do you simply write an email and send your photograph in, then hope...? Do you need to accompany this with an article...? Do you write/email them first and ask if they'd like to see an image you have taken for their possible use...? How do you protect your copyright, and if accepted how do you determine price/payment...?
OM, so there's lot's of questions in this thread - but I am sure there's many of us here who would dream of having a photograph printed (myself included) and perhaps don't know how to go about achieving this.
What do those here who have had photographs published do...?
Ta.
