Canada - Malign river and Lake, Jasper

Just outside Jasper is the road to Malign Lake. Malign because the guy that named it lost his supplies trying to cross the river. Malign sounds bad so maybe that is why they pronounce it Maleen?

First thing you come to on the road is Malign Canyon. Another one of those places where the water has cut so deep it is a long way down to the river.

Then there is Medicine Lake. We were there at the low point. It starts off full with ice melt then drains down to near empty by the end of the summer.

Further on the river crossed under the road. Should have crossed over to make more of the two standing stones in the middle of the river (in the distance).

So we came to Malign Lake. Due to the direction of the road I seemed to be shooting into the sun most of the time. Not ideal.

Nice place to rent a canoe. not that we did though!

There is a famous picture of this lake and it order to get to the point where it was taken you have to take the boat tour.

And this is the view. Just wish I'd been there in better weather and time of day. Still I was the first tourist up to the viewing point.
