View Full Version : POTY 2011 Sponsored By: Vision Graphix - Round 10 - A Solitary Existence (Discussion)
Welcome to the 2011 Talk|Photography Photographer Of The Year Competition.
Sponsored By: Vision Graphix
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/../images/externallogos/banners/vision_graphix_460x68.gif (http://www.visiongraphix.co.uk/)
Vision Graphix will provide a print of the winning image for the winner each month
This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.
The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.
So on with the competition;
The theme for OCTOBER is:
'A SOLITARY EXISTENCE'
Out on it's own, just lonely or standing out from the crowd.

Love it - this is a great theme, and gives plenty of scope. I'm still struggling with the Hustle one, and I'll do my best to get an entry in, but this is a very inspiring theme. These competitions are grrrrreat!
Yep sounds a good theme to me too!
Fantastic theme, lots to think on. Just hope I get time to get one in
That sounds so much better! :) Few ideas already!

Yeah thats about right, my job as a submariner in the RN over the last 24 years has made me a little bit of a recluse over the years. Only now with my photography am i starting to come out of my shell a little

I said I was getting one in early this month - hopefully I'll be able to get out for the rest of the month and shoot something for ME rather than the competition, as I seem to have been doing all year... It's really taken over Chez Yin, I'm afraid ;)
Hi guys can you still enter although it would be my 1st and you are on round 10?

Absoloutely fine - the more the merrier... spread the word, we could do with a few more entrants :)
Cool, now for the hard bit lol, thanks
Watch out mate, it's a slippery slope to obsessence*!
Welcome all the same!
*I'm pretty sure I just made that word up. If it's not a word, it should be!

I agree - about the word and the slippery slope - the POTY has pretty much taken over my personal shooting this year!

but seriously folks - it's not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to get completely obsessive about the competition - it is really intended as a Light Hearted way of getting people out taking photographs.
It's just the saddo's like myself, Chris and Michael* - who are fighting over third/4th/fifth in the overall, that are letting it get to us I think
* No offence intended Lads, we've all just admitted to it, after all

Haha, I'm the first to admit it, so no offence taken! I used to go to work and think about work; now I go to work and try to think of an image that might pick up a couple of votes. Here's to hoping my boss isn't a secret tog and reads this ;)
I have stuck in my once a year entry that no one will vote for because all of the others are so much better!
Well that's mine in, since my only two ideas turned up as other entries i thought id better think again. It hit me while i was walking my dogs, so came home and got it :)
Thats mine in, does anyone else doubt themselves, the second they post their entry? Too late now I suppose:)

er... because it's supposed to be a bit of light hearted fun, to encourage people to get out and shoot more, and to promote a bit of creativity?

Well said.
I've just used the theme with a basic photography course I'm doing to get folks out and take a photo they might not think of doing otherwise.
int projects great! :)

I'm thinking that way now, because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. 2 More and thats 2011 completed. IF I do enter in 2012 i'll be entering it for fun - though I've a funny feeling I may be involved in the running of the comp, and if that's the case, I won't be entering - wouldn't be right.

What I meant was that I have an idea of what I could enter... But looking at the location in front of me...I can't see why I think it might work...hence I need a bit more thought or find a spookier location..
Not..why should I bother..... Sorry if it came across that way..

Still swollen at the moment, hadn't wanted to bother the doctor/hospital with it but might have to soon.
A great image again this month Alex, no chance of catching you again this month I think.

Yes definitely get it seen to mate.
Thanks for the kind compliment Jon...although you've got a beautiful picture in there yourself;).
Funnily enough talking about things you do for a shot. Just before I took that shot I got absolutely soaked by a massive shower...I smothered my camera to protect it and took most of the soaking. I ended up driving home in my underpants:lol:.

Graham.
Seems to be a month of injuries; I have been nursing a sprained neck for 2 weeks! Not even thought about picking up camera so must be bad! might resort to the lumix for this month.
Speedy recovery to you Jon
Great shots in already and still 1 week to go!

...i tore a ligament in the lake district, my calf is so tight and i too have a swollen ankle, it was a wonder i could drive the 200mile home the same day but i managed it.
I was coming down Ard Crag when i was less than 100yds from the car and slipped for the 3rd and final time, camera gear and tripod on my back :help: lol. my own fault - wrong footwear and no mobile signal could have easily got into trouble but managed to limp back to the car.
To make matters worse it wasn't a great view towards Crummock water and deleted the shots from up there

Wow there are some really great shots this month, im not holding my breath :)
As I've been injury free for a while now I had no excuse to not get an image in this month.
Speedy recovery to the injured amongst us.

Just got back from a 2 week trip to the UK. Getting a shot in this month was tough! Only thing injured though is my wallet! It has been battered :(

Oh well Chris I'm guessing the state of your wallet will make an ideal subject for next months entry for "Past it" :D
