I have followed a few of the tutorials on the site to process this shot. It was initially underexposed but shot in raw so I was able to save it.

how big is the RAW file? Any chance you could host and post? Or you could mail it to me? I'll have a go at the low-ish res but it probably won't be any better that yours!

Raw file is just under 6Mb. Just looking into how to host the image as I do have some unused web space from my ISP. If your e-mail will accept that size file PM me your address, I would appreciate any help with the processing :)

well, that's my quick drunken stab at it, (as my g/f often hears)

adjusted white balance to 'cloudy' in cs2 camera raw then fine tuned as it was TOO orange.

adjusted exposure, shadow detail, sharpness. (all increased I think)

saved as TIFF

cropped to remove as many blown highlights as possible.

cloned out (badly) remaining highlights.

adjusted levels.

made a selection of eyes and boosted the catchlights a little (not enough looking back at it now)

converted to LAB mode and sharpened using USM on the lightness channel.

Back to RGB

Added simple border.

saved for web @ 800px and 160k.

Boom Shanka!!!!!!!!

Sounds alot more complicated than it was and only took about 10 mins (hence the white line on the jaw where my cloning was poo!)

I should've saved a full size copy to mail you, sorry, but in my beer fug closed the image.

The crop works well, and gets rid of those tricky highlights. I will try to replicate this evening.

Sorry for the noob question but what is the easiest way to put a border around your photos ??? There are a few people who present their photo in a frame with a title underneath is this in Photoshop or is it a plug in ???

Can you do something about the stray twig over his left (right as you look at it) ear? V. distracting.

Hi,
New here myself, and just looking around at the moment, but don't expect replies like that on other forums that I visit. Looks friendky here!!

Comment above, about mail servers and file size handling. I have a Gmail (Google Mail) Account. It handles very large files and had large storage space too. Hope this might help.
Al :)

Have to say I am relatively new and had a wee problem with my brand new D70s (Thread = D70s CF Compartment !) and I had simply the best and quickest of responses from the guys here over the other forums I tried !

Already don't bother much with the others now - maybe when I eventually get my camera back I will try posting some efforts ... they really are good with the helpful advice and critiques.

Join up and see ! Best wishes anyway... :p

I am glad you both like it. :)

So Dave, any luck with hosting the raw? Looking at Spencers' crops and rework I think it really deserves the effort!
