View Full Version : Fortnightly Assignment 13 - Find Me A Fungi

This was a real grabshot of a nice bit of Fungi I snapped out in the rain the other day.
While I know the composition is a bit pants I quite like it as this was shot with my 50mm 1.4, full frame.
Slight crop, but just goes to prove ... doesnt matter if you havent got a macro, you can still get out there and find yourself a fungi.

Look forward to seeing who gets what when I get back after the weekend. :D

Rules

None really, but if you're submitting a photo, please comment on 2 other photos in the the thread, one of which should be the one preceeding your post.

Sorry about the quality but he has been dead quite a while.

InaGlo nice scene.

I actually rather like that Glo, as you said, the comp could do with being a bit more on a third line but otherwise a nice shot.

Tiler65 - errrr nice composition but I think the white balance is a bit off

Here's my offering - appologies that I've already posted this recently

InaGlo, like the brightness of the red against the darker background.

Grendel, nice crisp shot with great depth of field.

Here's my offering (hope this works, first time posting an image here)

this my effort, from Lake district last year..
i am so pleased we are having a fungus thread, grendels picture is brilliant, as is KLS's but just too many twigs in it, and Glo, well what a lovely young Fly Agaric you have there.

 Very noce boon, very 'fresh' looking with the background. Glo, love that stark red with the lovely moss

Here is the tree, needless to say in the deepest darkest part of the woods, and didnt have to much time to mess about as the dogs were far less interested in it than I was, so cheated and used flash. Definately time for a walk without the dogs

InaGlo - nice shot. I wish I had come across something as spectacular looking as this on my trip out today!

LadyLens - I like the eeriness of your flash shot (makes it look almost night time).

Here's my attempt (be gentle with me, today was my first real trip out with my camera and this is my first post on this forum!), taken at Hatfield Forest (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-hatfieldforest/):

Mercury. Shame it has been got at by slugs. Did you dig it up?
Boon. Like that. Colours are good.

No, it was growing out of the wood as shot.

No, it was growing out of the wood as shot.

Thats odd as the pointy bit at the bottom is usually in the ground.

Sawman I really like the detail in that shot, any idea what sort of fungi it is? (Just read the bottom of your post:bonk:)

Grendel, you can post that pic as often as you like it's superb

Yup, that's the one.

 Great place that I never knew existed until a few months ago, when having dropped someone at Stansted very early morning I was driving round looking for somewhere to stop with the camera. Spent about 3 hours wandering around before the daytime 'crowds' arrived, can't wait to get back over there now autumn is here. ;)

I didn't know about it either - until my recently joined camera club suggested it for a group outing! I will certainly be returning too.

Great shot maddog.mark!

maddog.mark like the contrast in colours of the brown mushrooms on the white/grey tree bark.
sawman like the mushroom but imo could of added something in from the background perhaps, ie taking the pic lying on the ground maybe?

Here's mine:

Nice shot matt. Could do with a smidge more DoF but you should see mine, I'm in no position to criticise.

Nice Amanita Muscara 'Glo. The king of all toadstools to my mind. Favourite food of shamen and the basis for santa claus' outfit. Alledgedly....

Anyway, onto my little Mushroom Medley.....

the shots were mostly rubbish as I was trying not be a photographer and was just snapping whilst on a walk! Poor DoF, camera shake and other general issues lol.

I only wish that I could take photos that were half as good as any on this forum, they are all so fantastic, but maybe in time I will manage it! I know it isn't very good at all, but here is my effort. I had only had the camera for 2 days, and it was my first walk round the park with it. The subject isn't a really good example but I liked the shape of it.

AntiHero- nice photo has an 'abstract' quality due to the close-up narrow depth of field vibrant colours.

Here's my effort. Fuji S2 Pro & Nikon 180mm f2.8 ED lens. Photo taken in natural light- tripod required for the long exposure. But that's the good thing about fungi- they don't move much!
