View Full Version : Fortnightly Assignment 14 - Fire(works) !!!
A little early with this assignment ... instead of the usual little late :p
The idea is to catch firework celebrations going on around now.
Fireworks are everywhere right now but just incase you live on a far off planet & dont get to see any, Ive given the title fire(works), so as usual interpret the theme as you wish.
This thread here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=37278&highlight=shooting+fireworks) may help those who havent shot Fireworks before.
Rules
None really, but if you're submitting a photo, please comment on 2 other photos in the the thread, one of which should be the one preceeding your post.

Okay- a slide scan from the good old days of film (who remebers Velvia 50?) featuring fireworks framed by Warwick Castle (and a troublesome colour cast from a mercury vapour (greenish) street light).

3 nice ones there FF, they really fill the frame.
I was trying for something a bit different this year so went for some shots of the actual fire, I thought it had more of a sinister quality. I'll put up a traditional shot too

From more shots than I'm prepared to admit to...here's the only one you're seeing......back to bugs and birds for me folks. (Using an old EF35-350 on a 5D)

Well this was my first time with fireworks, not great results but I think I understand how to do better next time. These were taken with an 18-55mm kit kens, handheld.
Sorry, I didn't see the bit about commenting on previous posts!:bonk: I certainly get a sense of scale from Shogun's pictures but the lack of focus is distracting. I like Pete Barne's shots. The idea of the silhouette and the fire is good, have you tried it with a tighter crop, it might make the silhouette stand out a bit more?

Good attempts Alex, although a tripod would definitely have helped! I love Peter's silhouetted man shot (I tried something similar last night, although unfortunately only had my Ixus with me).
Here's my contribution, taken at Cambridge's main display on Midsummer Common:

Thanks Mercury, I did have a tripod but found I couldn't get far enough away from the display to get a wide angle shot of the action. Next time I will find a better location to set up in.
Hi all
I know this is very late but would really apprecaite your thoughts and comments.
Thanks in advance

Sure - it was taken at f/11 for 9.2s using my MC-36 release for the first time. D200 on a tripod with 18-200mm lens.

Just found these ones in my archive from a trip to Italy (wasn't Guy Fawkes night!). Nice & colourful I think.

Cheating really though as they are video frame grabs from a 3CCD Sony camcorder!
I took this whilst onboard a cruise ship Aurora.
