Nikon 50mm 1.4 OR 1.8

i'm thinking about selling my nikon 50mm 1.8 and buying a 50mm 1.4, as a friend of mine is going to new york next week and could pick me one up for £125, i'm just wondering if theres a great difference in the lenses,apart from the speed,has anyone else on here upgraded from the 1.8 to the 1.4,all feedback much appreciated :thumbs:

How much do you use it?

If like most of us, you dont use it that often, I'd say it aint worth it!

Not worth it. The performance at f/1.4 is not spectacular and stopping down to f/2 it performs pretty much similar to the 50 f/1.8. If you use a large aperture most of the time then saving for something more substantial like the 85 f/1.4 would be the better investment.

But it is nice to know you're not shooting fully open at 1.8, also the extra money you're spending on the 1.4 is going on better build quality.
