A newbie at our club asked yesterday if his brand new D80 had the same function as his old point & shoot, namely...

That he can sometimes set it to automatically record the time & date on each image, rather than just in the exif - any of you D80 peeps know the answer?

Yes - I know he needs to read the manual, but to a complete newbie they can be daunting - any help appreciated

Cheers

Hi DD - I've a D80 and it's not possible to date stamp in the way you want I'm afraid - it's only available in the exif & has to be recreated out-of-camera. You could try one of these applications:
http://www.friedemann-schmidt.com/software/exifer/
http://www.programurl.com/software/jpg-jpeg-photo-date-time-stamp.htm
Hope this helps...

Thanks Phil, seems he'd tried reading the manual but was just confused

I'll pass on the news

Just as a thought, seems odd to me cheap point n shoots should have this feature (useful on holiday snaps) and yet they drop it for 'posh' cameras

Probably because I can't think why anyone would want it on a mid-range DSLR given it's in the exif - you've got me wondering about it now!!! Yes I imagine the P&S stamp would be for holidays & events etc, but presumably it can be disabled.
