It's been quite a year in the Talk Photography Photographer of the Year competition with a close fought battle for top spot and a very high standard of photography.

A big thanks to all who entered and made it the success it has been. Once again, a special thanks to Mark (TheBigYin) who has once again done an impeccable job as keeper of the scores, especially given much of his time this year has been taken up by moderating duties.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for

Ladies and gentlemen......our 2011 Photographer Of The Year is......

jollyjack

Jon has been consistently provided excellent images this year and has amassed a total of 230 points, 18 points clear of 2nd place, but he has been kept on his toes all the way with fine efforts from others during the course of the year.

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Mark's leaderboard for the year can be found here:

http://www.mb-software.co.uk/tp/POTY_YTD-2011-12.htm

with the full year's month by month scores here:

http://www.mb-software.co.uk/tp/index.htm

and the results for December once again here:

Congratulations and thanks once again to all that entered. The all new POTY 2012 (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=374802) is up and running, come and have a look, join in and best of luck to everyone

Congratulations Jon! Great work this year.
Big thanks to Fabs and TheBigYin for organising it all. You have most definately made people like myself get out there and greatly improve our thinking, ideas and techniques! 2011 was my first year entering and I'm already looking forward to the challenge of 2012 even if I already know it will drive me insane!

well done Jonny Boy!! The cream always rises to the top! Great entries this year and a worthy winner.

Well done everyone for sticking with it... i know it can drive you mental at times. This was my first time entering all the months too and i'll be in there this year too (still probably between 23.30 - 23.59 on the last day of the month :bonk:)

Congratulations Jon - an excellent body of work over the year - I can honestly say I've looked forward each month to seeing what you would come up with for each months entry - even if I didn't actually relish having to compete against them

Having managed to be "in there mixing it up" at the top of the table for the first few months, I've realised just how much commitment, dedication and graft it takes to produce 12 potential competition winning photo's - a level of application that was far beyond what I could manage, I'm afraid... Definitely gave me an appreciation of the amount of work that others put into the competition though.

Many congratulations Jon; not only have you consistently produced some fabulous images but you have also been the bench mark of quality that I have tried to aspire to. Have really enjoyed seeing your entries and admiring the quality - especially the landscapes.

Top work to everyone who managed to nail all 12 months with an entry. I agree with Mark that it does take time and thought to continually shoot to themes within a given time period, especially when other life factors conflict with the ideas you initially have.

Here's to an interesting 2012.

(thanks to Mark, also, for managing the leaderboards - a real enhancement to the enjoyment of the competition)

Thanks everyone for all your votes and comments this year

It was a big challenge this year, competing with so many talented members with such different backgrounds in photography. The themes made this competetion the biggest challenge this year making me and many other having to step out of our comfort zones and sometimes outside of the box. I can only thank the forums admin staff for running the competition and making it Challenging and interesting and Mark for the leaderboard scores and a big well done to him on his position this year.

I also want to say Well done to all who entered, and in my eyes everyone is a winner for taking part :clap:

Congrats must go to Vulkan75 (Alex) who came in 2nd with 212 Votes
He Kept me on my toes and made me get out there and try hard each month to try and keep ahead of him which didnt always happen, well done m8.

Also congrats to Chris Owen for 3rd place with a final vote total of 179. Very impressive for your first year and i expect to see more of it next year, again very well done m8

I've been into photography for four years now and have never believed my work has been of a standard to ever win a competition, so I'm very pleased to have achieved this and it has given me the confidence to go out there and try more.I certainly learned new techniques throughout this year and have had fun along the way.

Good luck to everyone for the 2012 contest, New rules, great new topics to keep you thinking so should be a good year.

I won't be entering this year due to leaving the Armed Forces this month after 24 years and starting a new job and having to relocate the family aswell so will have alot on my plate, but I will make an effort to vote every month.

Congrats Jon. Thoroughly deserved.

This was my first attempt at a photography competition of any description and your images were an inspiration. I'd always keep an eye out for your pics knowing that they were likely to be the months standard setters.

Shame you won't be joining us for the 2012 POTY.

Well done Alex and Chris for 2nd & 3rd.

On a personal note, I'm well chuffed with 5th overall. Better than I'd ever imagined

From 6th in 2010, to 7th in 2011... my photography's got worse!

Haha, thanks everyone so much for your votes throughout this year I really appreciate it, and some totally 100% deservedly winners this year, awesome entries.

I've really enjoyed both years I've entered since getting my camera in 2009, but I think this year I'll not be taking part just as I am finding it difficult to make sure I can keep up with getting quality pictures for the themes, and instead just concentrate more on my landscape stuff :)

I've got to echo everyone else's previous comments, a well deserved victory after 12 months of consistently fantastic images. Well done Jon.

It's a real shame that you (and a few others, including ash) are talking about missing 2012, at the very least you should all stick at least one image in, just to keep the rest of us on our toes! I've lost count how many times I've entered an image this year and my wife to say something like "I think you've got a good chance this month" with my response having to be "nah, Jollyjack hasn't entered his image yet!"

Congrats to Vulkan and Chris Owen too, if any of my 2012 images are anywhere near the quality of your 2011 images, I'll be one happy man.

Thanks Michael but you produced some stunning work 2011. I find it quite amusing that I hate the majority of my 2011 work. I feel most comfortable in a studio and have loved seeing the work of all other members every month. If there was to be an award for the most outstanding shot of the year then I would give it to............Maria for her Entry Getting Wet

I do intend to making a full return to the competition in 2013 which by then I should be settled in my new job and have relocated the family. If I get a chance I will pop a least one image in to as you say keep you on your toes.

Your images have been a pleasure to see each month and looking forward to see your take on the themes.

Also, thanks to everyone else for your congrats comments, it been a pleasure competing against you all this year all your effort have made the standard high.:clap::clap:

Well done to a very deserved winner. I don't know how you have, consistently, submitted so many excellent images Jon.

To everyone else, well done one and all.

Finally Jon, very best of luck with all your new ventures in 2012. It will take some time to get used to civvie street mate but stick with it. I have 2 very close friends, both of whom are ex jungly pilots and if they can survive the move then anyone can!!

I've really enjoyed taking part in this, and seeing so many excellent entries. I must admit, I'm really chuffed to have made 10th place, having only been into photography for a couple of years. Thanks to all who voted for my shots. :)

A massive well done to Jon, and the top 3 also, a brilliant and inspiring series of photos from all, and it was great fun seeing the top peeps battle it out each month

And thank you to everyone for all the hard work that goes in to this competition, it must be a massive amount of time and effort

I am over the moon with 17th for the year, bought my camera 8th Jan 2011, and within days found this forum as I tried to get to grips with it, and have learned so much, and been very inspired by the quality of photography here, and the lovely friendly people too!

Roll on 2012 and hundreds more great pics from everyone!!
