Ice Hockey Shots [Tues Night]

Here are some shots that I took at the icehockey last night. these particular [face-up] close up shots were asked for. I have some more "action shots" that I am just sorting through at the moment.
It is a tuesday night amateur hockey team, [with some semi-experienced/good players] but they play non-contact [meant to] because there are females too. Altho, from my weeks of going...the women are generally the ones playing dirty!!! :lol:

These were all taken hand-held [broken tripod] around iso 800-1600, f4-f6 and shutter speeds 1/60 - 1/90

So on the tripod point, do you feel if you had used one it would have held you back? these look very good, I was wondering where the action was but I see you're getting to that.

I shot with a tripod last time that I went [first time with my dslr] and after shooting without a tripod....I feel liberated. :lol::lol: I do think that a tripod last night would have held me back.

Thanks LL, I'll be submiitting some more into this thread soon, after I have made a few slight tweeks with PS. I am so happy with the way that they have turned out.

get a monopod :)
I use one for footie shots and they are great.
Freedom of movement but still sturdy against handshake.

A monopod really will help no end. Great for moving around to catch shots where a tripod is hard work

Why not extend your tripod legs but keep them all together. A hair band will keep them tight. I just dont have the need for a monopod, but sometimes when i want to be mobile i use this method.

Oh the shots, looking good. I bet the action shots will be good too, and you'll have plenty of interest from the players.

:D thank you!!! :) I tried to get some "semi-motion blur" in my shots...Im happy with how they've come out. Needed a little post process tweaking...but other than that, I'll definately shoot hand-held again...

Thanks Dod, I know it wasnt as "good" as the others but i felt it captured the moment, as best I could...be it out of focus!!!! :lol:

But thank you for the compliemtn of "another good sporty tog" hehehe. This is mainly the only sport I photograph at the moment. I just need help getting my white balance sorted.
