Photos from the King of Dirt jam at Chicksands this weekend.

Despite the bitter cold and less than perfect condition of the trails, much fun was had and many tricks were sent. It was nice to see the underground riders getting in on the action too, I'd like to make a special mention to Sam Ren who was riding awesome. Martin Cooper also deserves props for taking a really hard bail and getting straight back up, he came up short on the last double on the middle run and ended up faceplanting the down ramp. A few bottles of water to rinse his bloody mouth and a quick brush down and he was back on his feet.
Prizes were awarded at the end of the day for various things and that was followed by a session on the middle line which turned out to be the best riding of the day with Sam Pilgrim pulling a flipwhip amongst other things.

I got a ride there with Phil Auckland (Identity Bikes) and we mostly bopped around to Metallica...

When we arrived...the big line was already being sessioned:

They're a very good set, especially in what looks like difficult light. All technically fine to my eyes. And thanks for the explanation - it adds quite a lot. Although I have no idea what most of the words mean :-)

why do they keep falling of the bikes?

only joaking there great shots, how much PP has gone into these as the light looks quite hard to work with?

@dsb...

The light was actually not that bad - I stopped down the ambient by 1 to 2 stops in an attempt to eradicate the background clutter (trees and branches). I then lit the riders with two strobes fired wirelessly with pocketwizards to make them "pop" from the frame as they were then correctly exposed.
The last photograph of this section was taken when the light was really starting to get low and the rider is practically "spotted" out against the dark ambient. Compare this with shot number 8 which was taken much earlier on in the afternoon when the sun was still out and the ambient was as bright as you can see in the two portrait photographs.
