Last saturday my better half and I were supposed to be at a memorial day out, this includes copious amounts of alcohol, a pool tournament and a card tournament, we normally attend but work had to intervene this year. The gathering usually takes place from 12 till the early hours of the next morning :) but on this occasion, around 10pm we were sat watching television after a hard days graft.
Whoosh, I thought the washing machine has taken a funny turn (it's on it's last legs) but I heard the missus scream when she entered the kitchen, as water was hissing out from the combi flexi hose on the boiler.
Apparently, the way the plumber had installed this flexi hose was the lazy way of doing it and this is how it ended up. The hose is a dense rubber shrouded with stainless steel (or alluminium) strands.
I am just glad we were at home at the time.

or 5 years of being in use every single hour of the day ( so my missus says) :)

I'm curious, what lazy fitting method cause that to burst, they are meant to withstand high pressure.

Looks like abrasion to me...

This one was fitted in such a way that the water was using it as a direct way into the boiler pipes. It should have had a cut off valve inbetween the pressure key ( for boosting the Bar pressure back up to 1.5 if it dropped below) and therefore only allowing the water pressure to pass through the flexi hose if and when needed. It now has the safety valve in place.
It was also fitted at a rather acute angle, as shown in this picture. But has now also been resolved. It only actually took me about 30 seconds to rip the boxing off the pipes and turn off the mains, but still ended up mopping up for an hour afterwards.

We really are flabbergasted at how this happened.

We thought the same but there is about an inch between the bottom of the casing and the worktop, that towel is folded so you will realise that there hasn't been any abrasion.

Saw that, can only be pressure and a weakness in the rubber then. Braiding can't hold when the rubber goes. Busted rubber spells danger.

It must have subsequently developed a kink at the bottom causing the pressure to build up.

Yea..... You don't want to get a kink in it either.

Unfortunately, (no disrespect to any genuine plumbers on this forum) cowboys are attracted to this profession by the supposedly lucrative money to be made.

Yes that is very true, but the plumber we used is a very good plumber, hence I was a little upset at learning that this was the lazy way out.

Yes for sure, there was a slight kink in the bottom bend.

Crikey. It doesn't even bear thinking about what you would have come home to if you had gone out
